Spoiler I think I figured out what Madara said to Konan

Some People are still not sure what Madara meant by this.Or more how he did so.

I like to point Attention to Chapter 444.
Nagato awakening the Rinnegan.

And Nagato says something very interesting as well in 445.

"My Mother and Father died for a War Konoha started".

You see what I am getting at?

Who was the Man that worked WITH Hanzo in this War where Nagato's Parents died?
Danzo.

Who has a unknown connection to him?
Madara.

To summarize:
Madara found out about Nagato and that he is the Second Sage.
Thus orchestrated it that Konoha starts the War.
By allying with Danzo he could pull off that Konoha Nin's kill Nagato's Parents thus awakening Rinnegan and starting his Path of Hatred and becoming Madara's Tool.

Basically Madara meant he was behind everything.

But why would he complicate so much, couldn`t Madara find two or three random Shinobi, place them under Genjutsu, give them Konoha clothes and have them kill Nagato`s parents.

I also think if he wanted to kill his parents, he alone could`ve done that, then place Nagato directly under Genjutsu.

The main problem I see with this theory (aside what I said) is that Nagato said how Hanzo started to cooperate with Danzo to retain his Amegakure leader position, which was many years after Nagato unlocked Rinnegan.

But otherwise, interesting and great theory indeed!!!

Perhaps you could try to think of other way Madara tried to do same thing, only in a different way!!!

I think it's pretty plain what it means. It means Nagato wasn't born with the Rinnengan and instead was implanted with them by Madara (or one of Madara's servants). But yes, I agree that Madara was behind the scenes
in the war...actually I think he was behind the scenes of ALL the wars.

Though it sounds like you're saying Danzo and Madara were once allied.
I'm not sure on this. I mean Danzo and Madara aren't the best of pals.
But then again, Danzo would be the type to ally with Madara to try
and stab him in the back later. Of course unfortunately Madara got
to Danzo first with his sneak attack and having Sasuke fight Danzo.

if Madara gave the rinnegan to Nagato, then normally his eye should aways be activated? (like the sharingan kakashi got from obito). But in the manga it looked like he awakened it (thus being the owner of the eyes). Strange strange

I don't think Nagato ever "awakened" the Rinnengan. It was always active.
Nagato just learned how to wield it's powers. Notice how you never see
Nagato with normal eyes. It's either his hair covers his eyes or you see
him with Rinnengan. I think it's always active. But even if it is always
active using it's powers is another matter.

I wonder though, with the Rinnegan, if it just IS always active. When we saw SoSP and the elder son, the RInnegan was always active, it just was, and was not somthing that could willfully be turned off and on.

We are assuming the Rinnegan is like the Byakugan and Sharingan where it can be activated and deactivated, but if we look at what we believe is the middle step between the Rinnegan and Sharingan, we see the Byakugan is marked by particular eyes, which can be active or not, but appear visually recognizable regardless. So perhaps the first permutation, which is the Rinnegan simply is, and always is.

This is a good theory. I see how it could work. The only problems are the facts that Madara didn't have Shisui's eye at the time, and he couldn't control Danzo, and how Danzo would be able to work with Madara. They don't like eachother.

well people have been saying this since the beginning, I think you are the first to post a new thread regarding madara being an indirect cause though. That being said I personally don't like it, to me it is sort of a cop out. I think madara said he gave it to him with the intention that he really did give it to him in some very direct way. I think this involves information that has yet to be given. If kishi makes it that madara just helped catalyze the war and made the konoha ninja go into nagato's house then to me the panel where madara says he gave nagato the rinnegan won't have the same effect.

Rinnegan is not just some eye anyone can have. You must possess certain demanding qualities like massive chakra reserve and stamina. Nice theory vV.

Danzo already went as far to ally with Hanzo to kill a bunch of Teens just to become Hokage with Hanzo's help.

I say him once having allied with Madara is more than possible if he promised him to help him become Hokage.

Which also explains Danzo's dislike towards him.
He found out he was used and that he was a Pawn in Madara's Plan.

Nagato was the 3rd Sage of the Six Paths. Meaning there was someone before him, Madara likely took the eyes from but couldn't use them himself yet. Or Madara himself.
