I thought Orihime was going to be forever fodder, but Kubo knows how to write. Apparently Ginjo is really strong, but Orihime's shields are awesome.

I loved the little bit with Yukio sitting on his chair with the game in fast-forward. That puts perspective on how important training Ichigo is.

yes it does and orhime had what it takes to be somebody not just a side character this is were kubo delivers were kishi dont he can make his side characters look amazing and go from fodder to pretty dam good.

I honestly have no issue with Naruto's side characters. There are a few that could be gone or better explained, but most of them are fine. Ten ten and Ino are really the only ones that need more power.

Technically Orohime and Chad are main characters.

Well with Kishi:

1. Choji became from slow fat turd to an powerhouse that took down Kakuzu and Hizashi as well as Asuma lets not forget growing wings the size of mountains.

2. Shikamaru beat Hidan and Madara even considered Shikamaru an worthy foe and a threat.

3. Sakura beat Sasori, an Akatsuki that took down the strongest Kazekage ever and obliterated an nation.

4. Sai was already strong but he was totally badass when he laid a beat down on Deidara and Sasori.

5. Everyone had held their own against the Akatsuki or won a fight in part 1 or at least had an epic fight in part 1.
