Remember at this point Tobi has lost nothing, but a bunch of white zetsu clones. Kabuto is the one buring away all his pieces at the moment.

I think the entire war is a distraction. There are two possibilities at the momnet. Get Killerbee and Naruto or get the Daimyou. I don't know exactly what he wants with the Daimyo, but it seems he will easily get them.

Again, he doesn't need to win the battle to win the war. If he is doing what I think he is doing, he is a brilliant strategist.

I think this too. Why else would Madara openly declare war against the Kages? It seems pretty clear that he was trying to entice them into battle.

Indeed, while it is true the Akatsuki had completely lost the element of surprise, Jiraiya's snooping put an end to that, it is still more of a hit and run type of group. Remember all Madara had for the war thus far is the white Zetsus. Those can't even beat Ten Ten, clearly a distraction force. Kabuto just makes it slightly more interesting.

Madara wants the tailed beasts. To that end I think the Daimyo attack is the real thrust of his gambit.

I think the reason Mr. Swirlicue declared war on the as-yet unofficial alliance was to put them off-guard. It seems weird to put people together, on-guard, and have it actually be off-guard, but that's as it is, yes? Look at how many of the divisions are now in one spot, ready for a troll-stomping rampage! Those still separate from the main course still have their hands full, leaving Madara and BZ Rider free to wreak havoc where they wish. I don't think they care either way about the alliance of the shinobi; if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it's for convenience--Madara wants the disparate shreds of the Juubi, and all those fools are out there getting chummy with dead guys. Which was just a bonus, thanks to Kabuto Yak-monger.

I can't say this mini-war arc has been fully satisfying either, but let's wait a few more turns before we cry foul. If I were Kishi, I'd wait until the breaking point, then troll over the alliance in one fell swoop. But I'm an ass like that, and so few authors of quality take that tack.

We can hope! Or failing that, maybe Naruto dies, like the aforementioned Kabuto Chronicles would suggest.

Dude, I should totally Fanfic that up. But we know :Vorn: will pan it out of hand.

With posts like these, you really should write a fanfic. I would love to read it.

The Naruto story is at best, slightly above average.

It's nice to give a lot of characters some focus in the war. But, we don't really even know anything about most of them. It's pretty difficult to feel the true intensity without backstory.

We've known Kankuro since the chunin exams. Sai since early Shippuden. His brother as well. Sasori since earlier Shippuden. Kakashi and Zabuza since the beginning of the series. Team 10 since the original Naruto, Asuma since a bit later. Darui and the Kin-Gin bros got backstory in the course of their fight. Mifune and Hanzo, the same. Plus, it was interesting to see a flashback of how Pain killed Hanzo.

Honestly, Yokokurama. I was being sarcastic. I haven't seen those movies. And this war is as far from filler as you can get. So what if the main character isn't a big part of it? Naruto's taken long disappearances from the story before. This was is similar to the Chunin Exams in that it gives characters who've been introduced more backstory and personality, only in this arc the characters are resolving all of their conflicts, internal and external.

I have to agree with the sentiment that this war feels to much like filler and is dragging out to long.

It is obvious the point of this is to give the supporting cast one last shining moment before they get overshadowed by the final Naruto vs Sasuke battle. However the format just isn't working...

It started ok with using the Akatsuki zombies and Zabuza and Haku, but then it devolved into the Konoha 11 and their red shirt army vs an army of generic Zetsu clones and filler zombies we never heard of before.

Despite the hype of the dead Kages and the Swordsmen of the Mist, we have never seen or heard anything about them before. That makes them no better than Anbu fodder characters. There is no emotional attachment to any of them. They are being introduced solely to get defeated, and there is no tension in that.

So far only the remaining zombie Akatsuki, Chiyo, Dan, and Hizashi are relevant. All other fights might as well be off panel.

What matters is the reader, and I have no conection or emotional investment in any of this due to lack of tension. It would be alleviated some if people were dying. Not just fodder nin and the like, but having an intense battle where good and bad guys alike are using teamwork to amplify their skills, with people dying or being crippled/maimed on both sides. Heck even a major player getting trolled by a Zetsu clone would be permissible if the guy had his hands full. Why doesn't Kabuto have his ET's fighting as a unit instead of trying to mow through the battalions like undignified tanks? (And failing mostly). Why do all the Rookies have to survive without so much as a scratch just to prove each succeeding generation is better? If that were the case, Obito must have been offed by a toddler. GTFO, and let's do this right. Even as a distraction, I'm sure Madara was hoping for more. This really is getting ridiculous, and I was being patient until they offed my lovely Ibuse.

So what if it's made for children? Teach them the horror of the storm--we have enough wimps as it is. It ain't all furking rainbows out there, and even when it shows, it's like this
