First, look at Ch. 510, page 13

this is when Tobi basically beat Konan and told her about the Sage of Six Paths.
Now, look at the third box... it shows, what looks like, the Juubi eye. But in the middle, it has a Yin Yang symbol.

Now we all know that the concept for the Hyuga was taken from Buddhism, which believes in the Yin Yang concept. Is this somehow connected to Tobi's goals??? Does this mean that the Byakugan is involved in this as well?

No, I believe the intention of it was, as the text says, to describe how he created the tailed beasts etc. using yin and yang powers.

By the way, we can count six things on that picture in case any one is interested: The Yin, the Yang, the sharingan, the rinnegan, and then two fires (senju and uchiha?).

He might unless if we hear more about the Byakugan's origins and if the Byakugan's origins tie in with the Rinnegan, Sharingan, and the Rikudo Sennin Madara might(50%-75%) may end up getting the Byakugan to his collection.

He wont get rid of his remaining sharingan for a byakugan, he can still use the sharingan really well, as well as his rinnegan, getting a byakugan would be pointless...besides, the whole Uchiha clan was based around the sharingan

It is possible. That's the only doujutsu he doesn't have. He has the Sharingan and the Rinnegan. Madara's mask also has a third hole on top. That could be for the Byakugan's place. Question is, who will he kill in order to get it? Neji? Hinata?

Wouldn't Neji's brand prevent his eyes from being stolen like that? I thought that was one of the reasons the branch family had it.

It would be rather sad for Kishi to give Hinata a Disney death against Pain only to have Tobi steal her eyes later. Hiashi would be a better bet though. A confrontation like that would allow the opportunity for some closure between him and Hinata, as well as feed into the theme of the children stepping up to take their parents place.

As for why Tobi would go for it at this point... While it is true that between his two current eyes he is a pretty potent force, adding the byakugan would also add 360 degree telescopic x-ray vision to the mix. So with the Byakugan he could see all foes, then counter them with Sharingan fueled reflexes and Rinnegan fueled offensive/defensive options.

Plus that mask most definitely has a spot on it that is calling out for a third eye to be added.

It was said that the caged bird mark is put on the branch families to ensure the Byakugan secrets are kept. It's not so specific to say that a branch family member's eyes can't be stolen. I think it's more about protecting the specific techniques that are reserved for the main family. Such as the reserved techniques that Neji taught himself.

It would be interesting to consider this though, the Sharingan (as I recall from early in the manga) or should I say the Uchiha get their origins from the Hyuga clan. I find that interesting because it's never truly explained why that is! Perhaps there is somthing about the Byakugan we don't know about or that isn't explained (similar to the MS ability of the Sharigan).
