They don't really promote the comedy much more than the anime. Which is surprising since they stand to benefit more from promoting the comedy even more.
Hey that second FMA:B promo was very Toonami-esque. That's cool but not surprising since the Toonami promo guys have always worked for Adult Swim as well. |

If it's the way they're earning money, what do you expect them to do?

But we must be patient.

Bringing back Toonami would be neat but is there even a point to that when they don't have the awesome anime to play anymore?

Do you have any idea what would happen if Toonami came back right now? It wouldn't have Naruto, or all that anime and great action shows it had. It would have toyetic anime, and many of those shows you say are "FULL OF FAIL". It wouldn't even be reconizable. Sure I want Toonami to come back (Especially with the TOM 3 Saturday night era look), but not right now. It would just not be anywhere near as good as it used to.

Even when Naruto was in it's prime on Toonami it was still losing to Spongebob SquarePants, iCarly, Hannah Montana and various other shows on cable and that's just the kid's stuff. If they started a new Toonami block and was airing uncut DBZ Kai, Naruto Shippuden and One Piece they'd still lose to SpongeBob and iCarly and thus not be dominating in the ratings. They'd lose to Family Guy with adults as well and that would be on the same network. Anime is too niche here to beat SpongeBob, iCarly, Family Guy and various other long running American cable television staples. Winning that war just isn't in the cards. I'd be surprised if they could do better in total viewers than Ben 10: Ultimate Alien or Star Wars: The Clone Wars which are CN's current best rated action shows and their ratings are lower than Adventure Time, Regular Show and MAD's by a sizable margin much less below shows on Nick and Disney much less the rest of cable television. Sorry man the majority of the cable television audience doesn't share your appreciation for anime and they're not about to start to. |

Especially when you factor in how niche the market has become.http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...$2.741-billion

Hmm... I blame piracy. Back in 2000 piracy was barely a drop in the bucket compared to the torrent (c wut I did thar?) they are now because computers were substantially weaker back then and online streaming services such as YouTube hadn't taken off. Back then unless you got bootleg VHS/DVD or struggled to download fansubs of the few shows getting subbed and uploaded at the time you either saw shows on TV and bought them on VHS/DVD or you found them on store shelves at video stores and got introduced to anime through the home video releases of Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Bubble Gum Criss, Ah My Goddess, etc. You'd have an easier time coming across legal ways to watch anime than ways to pirate it in America. Now the tables are entirely turned. Pirated anime is not only easy to find. It's simple enough for a child to acquire. Legal streaming has probably hurt sales as well but depending on the show might have boost them as well. Nobody likes blind buys anymore. They want to try things before they buy it and Viz, FUNi, Bandai and various other companies understand this and offer some way to try their product before buying it. Things are not looking good for the US anime industry and the manga industry is starting to crumble as well. |

The manga industry starting to crumble? I'd say that actually started happening in 2009. While manga has gotten exposure in The New York Times with a top ten manga best-seller list, the manga industry was already struggling. In 2009 VIZ Media raised the price for manga under the Shonen Jump imprint from $7.95 to $9.99.
DC Comics also got rid of the CMX manga imprint almost a year ago.http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...mprint-in-july And not to mention this month, it was announced Tokyopop, you heard right, Tokyopop's American division has gone under. One of the largest publishers of manga in America gone. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...shing-division But yeah, I'd say pirating is a big factor. Personally I was shocked to hear 2003 was when the anime market was doing the best in terms of sales. While anime fandom is at an all-time high, sales are still at an all-time low.

Yeah... no... That would cost them even more money and chances are DVD sales would not benefit from it either. Because people don't tend to buy what they can get for free. So if the TV deal doesn't benefit the anime company in some manner they're going to opt for streaming it where they can control the level of exposure for the show themselves. Piracy wasn't a problem before because it wasn't easy to pirate anime. Now it's extremely easy to do so and that makes airing anime less worthwhile to prospective TV networks. They don't want second hand shows. You should understand that "Mr. I don't want reruns I want more new stuff". Simulcasting might also turn away potential TV deals which is why if a show is airing on US television and being simulcasted from Japan it's usually seasons behind the Japanese version on US television so those episodes wont air shortly after in the US thus diminishing the value of the TV deal. Nicktoons nabbing DBZ Kai almost right after FUNimation announced it is likely the reason why they didn't simulcast Kai when they could have. You never look at the big picture. It's your fatal flaw as a debater. |

And also with it airing on TV, you usually get only one episode a week. Many people figure, why wait a week when they can just watch a ton of stuff in one sitting? Many pirates are pirating anime that's airing uncut on [adult swim] mainly because they either don't like waiting a week, want to get closer to where it is in Japan, or simply don't want to buy the DVD's, or just love the thrill of pirating.
Also, airing more anime isn't going to do anything if you're not targetting it at children. You know Bleach on [adult swim]? Those rating numbers don't change much in the Number Games bumps, and want to know why that is? Not many of the [as] viewers are becoming anime fans, especially since they're unaware of anime (Even with the promos airing), so as such they're not checking it out. Their entertainment tastes have been established, so that's why targetting anime towards kids with edited dubs is a good idea. This is especially why an anime channel everybody gets would fail. Why do you think the FUNimation Channel and The Anime Network are premium? That's their only way of making ends meet because they are well aware if everybody got it for free, it wouldn't do so well. Kids wouldn't check it out, because it isn't on some kids channel they watch.

A little editing isn't disrespectful particularly if the uncut is still available and the edited dub doesn't replace music, story lines or leaves entire episodes on the cutting room floor.
American TV isn't Japanese TV. Some shows can't air uncut here and others wont air uncut here because they are being marketed to the appropriate audience and our standards are different than Japan's standards. But you know what's even more disrespectful than even butchering anime? Watching anime illegally. When you watch anime illegally you are making the statement that "this work is worth nothing to me and the people who made it deserve nothing for it". So stop disrespecting anime by pirating it and we can talk about whether or not Viz is disrespecting Naruto by buying the rights to it, releasing it uncut on DVD, iTunes and legal streams and airing it on television for the widest audience possible with only the necessary edits to do so and not actually "hacking it to bits" the way you imply they are. |

Rich? Buddy I just had to take out a pay-day loan to put food on the table and put gas in the tank this month.
But I assume you don't care about my financial situation and I don't care about yours. That doesn't give you the right to steal. You wouldn't go to the store jack a DVD off the shelf and walk out would you? You're doing the same thing by watching DVD rips of Naruto Shippuden. Don't even try to defend that here. You'll get no pitty. Especially when the show is already available uncut for free (just not dubbed). Just because you're not getting caught doesn't make it any less wrong. The show belongs just fine on Disney XD. It's a channel targetting boys 6-14 and that's the same demographic Naruto targets here and in Japan. That's the same demographic it was targeted at on Toonami. If all Naruto fans acted like you I'd want Viz to stop dubbing it uncut. Why should they put money into dubbing something people aren't willing to pay for? Thankfully we're not all like you and are very willing to watch it legally for free in Japanese or buy the dub on iTunes or DVD which gives back to both the Japanese producers and Viz for bringing it over and dubbing it for the masses. You should stop disrespecting Naruto by watching it illegally. Plus you watched many anime on a kids channel where you say anime doesn't belong at all including Naruto. Can you say "hypocrite"?
