Weirdest thing too was that I learned that saying "gay" can also mean lesbian or just homosexual in general. I had a girl say that she's "gay" and proud of it and never really got the gist of it until I asked her "Glad to know your happy". She replies "No silly, it just means I'm a proud lesbian." To your question, it depends on context.

"Those swordfish boots are quite gay." can be a good thing or an insulting thing depending on who you are speaking to.

I'm sure I'll be bashed for this.

The reason why I'm bothered by people using "gay" as a derrogetory comment is that they often also use it to call homosexuals stupid. What I mean by this is that they say "gay" to mean "stupid", when in my mind it means either "happy" or "homosexual." They know that the most common meaning is "homosexual", and yet they choose to equate it with stupidity anyway. As I see it, that is like calling gays stupid.

Even then, the main problem (as I see it) is not that they say it, but that they're only like that to gays. Half the kids in my school who use the word "gay" as a derrogetory comment wouldn't even think about using the "N" word, no matter what. That's what I believe is discrimination. Some of the kids in my school are tools who discriminate against gays. That offends me because it is a comment that insults the majority of the LGBT community, in which my friends, my girlfriend, and myself are included.

However, if, say, Gamabunta were to say it, I would probably feel less offended, because he's like that to more or less everyone. I still don't think it's "right", but it certainly isn't discriminatory.

All in all, that particular usage of the word just offends me. I wouldn't fight anyone over it, but it annoys me. Just my two cents.

I don't use say Gay, unless I'm referring to "Happy", or a Homosexual Person. I don't use it as an insult, as I find it immature. People can do what they want though. Just because I support LGBT doesn't mean everyone has to.

Gay can be used for many things. Many people in my school (Including myself) use the word "Gay" to describe something as stupid or as lame. We ususally don't use the word to insult people. Infact, I have homosexual friends myself. I believe Gay people deserve rights, even though there are people in this world who would disagree to what I'm saying.

Take Devil's Lawyer for example. He calls me gay everytime I would win in a debate against him. I don't get insulted because I'm not gay. But if someone would call my friends gay (and they are gay), then I would get offended, because I won't let someone treat them like garbage.

I will admit I have before. But I think it only is meant rudely if it's widely agreed upon (by homosexuals themselves) that it is.
