Chapter Three - Legends

Rasen and Maikeru made their way through the ranger station, Rasen nodded to several rangers as he walked past.

"Come on, hurry it up Rasen, I want to get this over with." Maikeru said as they made their way through the marketplace to the frieght lift station. To greet them there was a security guard. He turned and saw their uniforms and realized they were there for the lift, he must have been told beforehand of their mission.

"Sorry boys, the lift has broken down." The guard told them, it was not a great surprise; everything in Chikayo broke down a lot, especially in Lowdistrict where a lot of the maintenance was ignored or sloppily done.

"Typical" Maikeru said to himself, a hint of frustration in his voice.

"You're gonna have to walk the tracks in order to get to Biokasei. The cargo you'll be guarding will be waiting there for you." The guard told them as he walked away to continue his patrolling.

"You expect me, Maikeru 0.89 to walk the tracks all the way to Biokasei?" Maikeru asked himself as the guard walked away. "Well lets get going shall we Rasen?"

Rasen and Maikeru walked along the tracks, making their way towards the Biokasei labs, for a while, very little was said by either of them and they both remained on their guard in case of a Kaijuu attack which were not uncommon on the freight tracks.

Rasen had heard someone in the Lowdistrict market mention something called the sky, and unsure what that was Rasen had been wondering about it for a while so he decided to ask Maikeru about it.

"Hey, Maikeru?" Rasen asked.

"Yeah?"

"Have you ever heard of anything called the sky?"

"Well...yeah, the roof of the Lowdistrict market is painted blue to look like a thing that they call the sky. I'm not sure exactly what the sky is, but it is said that the air there is really clean. Unlike most of the air in Lowdistrict." Maikeru explained.

"Is it real?"

"I don't know, as far as I know it's only a legend, but with legends you never know do you?"

"Say it was real, where is it?" Rasen pushed wanting to know more about this place.

"It is said that if you continue up and up through Middistrict and Topdistrict and past the centre you will find a gate to the sky. But they say that the highest ranking
generals guard the key to opening it. But of course it is only a legend; it may just be a fanciful lie."

"If the sky was real it would be great to live under it with all the clean air you want. Don't you agree Maikeru?" Rasen asked, beginning to daydream about what life would be like under the sky.

"I guess so, anyway we're about to enter the Biokasei labs so I think that it is time to concentrate now Rasen not think about legends of the sky."

"Right."

Rasen and Maikeru reached the rusted door that had the faded lettering 'Biokasei' painted onto it. They entered and were greeted by a scientist, who wordlessly pointed them in the right direction and went back to reading his newspaper.

The pair followed the scientists direction through the Biokasei labs until they reached a door that read ‘Kaijuu Processor'.

"We have to go through there to reach the lift." Maikeru told Rasen, walking towards it.

"Alright then let's go." Rasen replied, but then, as Rasen took a step forward, he was suddenly not in the hall anymore, he was standing on a catwalk staring at what looked to him like a giant dragon. As Rasen began to approach the dragon he heard a voice in his head.

"The long wait is over...at last" The voice was loud in Rasens mind. Rasen could now see the dragon was breathing ever so lightly, it was alive! "You have awakened, my dying dream, at last another chance." the voice spoke once more. Rasen was now standing right in front of the dragon staring up at what he realized was the source of the voice.

"You have been chosen, my little friend, the sky awaits..."

Suddenly the dragon was gone and the world was black.

Chapter Four - Attacked

"Rasen! Rasen!!" a voice was shouting to him. Rasen suddenly awoke and lurched into a sitting position looking wildly around himself.

"Wha..!? Maikeru?" Rasen spluttered as he tried to grasp what had just happened.

"Hey, are you okay?" Maikeru asked "You keeled over all of a sudden" Rasen got up and scratched the back of his head. He didn't understand what he had seen and decided not to tell Maikeru about it.

"I fell over..?" Rasen asked to no-one in particular.

"C'mon...get it together!" Maikeru exclaimed looking a bit annoyed "Let's go." Rasen just nodded in reply.

Rasen and Maikeru entered the room labeled Kaijuu processor and what Rasen saw amazed him.

"It's just like my….dream? Vision?" Rasen wondered to himself as he looked around the room that was identical to the one he had just seen in his head only moments before. And just like in his head there was a massive dragon mounted on the wall pierced through the body in many places by giant steel rods. The dragon wasn't breathing that was the only difference to his dream.

"Whoa! What is that?" Maikeru exclaims "We don't have records of any Kaijuu this big! Maybe it is some kind of experiment?"

Rasen was too busy remembering his dream/vision and was too shocked to say anything.

"What, you scared Rasen?" Maikeru teased "It's dead already, it won't bite. Let's finish this mission! Either that or face the wrath of captain Kiseki! Hah...hah..." Maikeru began walking towards the door and Rasen took one last look up at the dragon and he heard the voice in his head once more but this time it merely said "Matsuro..." Rasen shook his head to clear it and left after Maikeru.

Two people stood in an office far, far away from the place where Rasen and Maikeru were working on their mission, speaking of something that unbeknownst to them would change both their lives forever.

"Atmospheric cleansing?" asked the taller, older man. He had a large 'D' sewn into his jacket. "The fool, what is he trying to prove?"

"Who knows?" answered the shorter, slightly feminine looking guy as he bent down to pet his pet that was scampering around hlim. "One thing though, he has neither gone mad or lost hope...yet."

"But he goes too far with these experiments. It is unlike him." Says the taller turning to face his companion. "And why have you come so far to tell me? Would you have me take action?"

"You must understand....we can do, only what we can do." Replies the smaller.

Rasen and Maikeru rushed onto the station, the bells of the lift were blearing out signaling that the lift was about to leave them behind. Maikeru ran onto the platform and yelled out to Rasen.

"Come on! The lift is about to leave! Hurry Rasen!" With that Maikeru jumps onto the ladder on the side of the lift and climbs up.

Rasen runs out onto the platform and with Maikeru waving at him to hurry up Rasen jumps on the ladder just making it in time as the lift streaks away down the tracks.

"That was to close." Rasen thinks to himself.

The lift ran quickly along the tracks that were suspended above a crevice that seemed to go down into oblivion. Rasen asended the ladder and walked over to stand by the lifts mounted energy gun.

Maikeru climbed up a ladder to where Rasen was standing watching out for danger. "Rasen…relax." Maikeru told him, looking at the hatch to the large container that contained whatever their mystery cargo was. "Whatever it is…it must be special. But it doesn't matter, no-one would attack a lift that was guarded by rangers anyway."

In the shadows a woman stood, watching the lift approach, a mask with red glaring eyes covered her face. Behind her, a massive Kaijuu known as a Cyclops stood, waiting obediently for it's master.

Back on the lift, Maikeru spoke suddenly.

"Rasen, I need your scores."

"What!?" Rasen exclaimed.

"I have the potential, all I need is a reputation and they will have to promote me. If things go well I could even be general, I have the qualifications after all." Maikeru said turning to Rasen.

"A general? Are you serious?" Rasen said shocked as he had never heard of these plans before.

"I am. I, Maikeru 0.89 will be a general. Rasen, with your 0.08 Power Ranking you'll never make it past grunt. But once I get to the top, I could help you out! Come on Rasen! What do you say?" Maikeru blurts out seeming to be trying to explain his request.

Rasen stood silently a thousand thoughts whirring inside his head. Then he saw a flicker of movement in the distance.

"Look over there!" Rasen exclaims. Maikeru looks where Rasen is pointing and sees it, a Kaijuu running alongside the lift with a woman on its back the woman raises an energy pistol and opens fire on the lift.

Maikeru and Rasen duck behind the tank. Taking cover as bullets of energy crash into the side of the tank, making zapping noises on impact. Rasen jumps up and mans the mounted gun and opens fire on the woman and Kaijuu.

"A war Kaijuu?" Maikeru says, mind thinking overtime before he hit the answer. "Hizoku! The rebels are attacking us!" He exclaims.

"She's gone." Rasen says as the woman disappears from his view "Did she give up?" he asks Maikeru uncertainly.

Maikeru was looking down the tracks, and he saw her, an energy bomb in her hands.

"Damn! It looks like they will do anything to stop the lift!" Maikeru yells and Rasen looks forward up the tracks and he spots the woman too.

Time seems to slow to a stop, the woman, aiming for the lift, Rasen and Maikeru, waiting for the inevitable.

Then, the woman launches the bomb, sending it crashing into the tracks in front of the frieght, the woman quickly mounts her Kaijuu and gets well back as the bomb explodes, just as the freight reaches it.

SFX- BOOM!!!

The detonation tears apart the drive cart of the lift and the track beneath, shredded metal seems to go everywhere and Maikeru falls from his carrage, falling towards the bottomless pit below.

As he fell he lashed out an arm, grabbing hold of a section of destroyed track, halting his fall, the woman was no-where to be seen.

The lift went plummeting down into the darkness, Rasen still stranded aboard it. It fell quickly and was swallowed up by the darkness.

Looking down into the seemingly bottomless pit below him, Maikeru yells out. "Rasen!!!"
