My Biology teacher predicts that sometime in the future, textbooks will become obsolete for schools. He thinks that devices such as iPads could be used instead. You can download all the textbooks you need for school on a single pad. You'll no longer have to carry around all those heavy books, you'll just need that one pad.
Also, I think the same pad could be used all throughout your middle/high school years, and if you wanted to keep it, you could probably buy it from the school. I also think the iPads could double as notebooks too. It's perfect. I don't know if my teacher was being serious, but it sounds interesting to me. So, do you think that textbooks will become obsolete in the future in favor of devices that could store all the information from textbooks, such as iPads? I sure hope this would happen, because it sounds like a great idea. |

Well if this happens, I hope the schools plan on paying for the IPads.

They better. I mean if they want us to use it they better not expect every student (even poor ones) to pay at least 500 dollars for 1.

The whole World, is becomming much like that slowly, it seems almost enivable, weather it be such a device, just to assist with schooling or other, it's already happening, how many students in schools have Laptops, for them to do all there school work on? Mostly this is more isolated to University or Collage though, there is usually the odd student, even in High School's that have Laptops to store there work on.
So it does seem very plausible, that there maybe such a device in the future, just to assist or apparently assist with learning, to help out where they think they can, though, then one has to ask, what would be the problems of such a thing. There is already Text Talk, affecting students, having a negative effect on there spelling and grammar, teachers have complained on such a thing. So really, technology is already effecting the education that one receives. So if such a device, becomes a permanent fixure within schools, would it have the same effect, you think, of affecting the already, decreasing problems with spelling and grammar. This is not to mention the problems already in society, where both reading and writing is decreasing already, so having this particular technology, fully intergrated within the education system, one must ask, if such a thing would also have a negative effect on, people being able to read, literacy is needed just for everyday activities, of course, having such technology you still would have to read, though, it's most likely that everything would be decreased, so it wouldn't have as much depth, as reading a text book has. Then with writing, if they stop writing and do nothing but typing and the similar, they may decrease the writing abilties of people, Text Talk has already effected the society, with such a thing to be implimented, in the education system permanently, ultimately getting rid of textbooks, this may have the same effect as Text Talk has on society, there writing and reading skills, decreasing or are lower than should be, therefore, more literacy problems within our society and throughout the rest of the World.
