Sometimes I call nigga to the rappers wannabe's that I know.. just to piss them off, they are white, I would never call that to a black person.
I don't care at all about races and Im not a bit racist.

I'm not saying I approve people going around slinging racial slurs at people, but I think you are missing the reasoning behind the special status the n-word has acquired. White people in America may have endured hardships, but they weren't systemic dehumanizing government-sponsored hardships supported and enabled by a culture of racism and social stratification that still has present-day repercussions. That is why it is empowering for blacks to own the word. If you owned the word "cracker" no one would care. In American culture that is a weak slur anyways, but apart from that the various theories associated with its etymology are much less degrading (though not innocent of insult). The same is true of the word "honkey," the history of which is generally regarded as more recent.

it's all about context. I use it, but never as a racial slur. I'm not easily offended, but when i am, it's usually due to actions, not words. I don't find some words more offensive than others because of their history. Words, like everything else, evolve. No group of people can claim any word as their own or prevent its evolution without alienating themselves from their society. Attempting to do so is foolish..........IMO.

Perhaps you are right in some sense, yet the much of the purpose of words is the division of one set of things from another. That is why they so effectively hurt people: they divide. A word may evolve so far beyond its initial usage that to use it in the original sense may seem out of place, quaint, or even unintelligible (like the word "gay"), but that has not happened with this word yet, and so claiming it doesn't so much isolate as insulate. I would say that taking ownership of the word is a consequence of pre-existing alienation, rather than a cause of alienation.

It hasn't happened yet because the black community refuses to let it. Like I said, they can't prevent the evolution of the word no matter how hard they try. I know it sounds harsh, and I don't mean to offend but we have to realize this. Racism does still exist and I'm sure that it has a role in the alienation felt but you have to choose your battles. The 'N-word' doesn't help the cause.

You are proposing to allow the word to evolve naturally, but while I take your point, the wait will be long. Even less-significant slurs still retain their meaning. People are impatient by nature, and waiting one's whole life for a word to lose power is not likely to happen. If you have power, you tend to use it, and that applies both to people who would use the word as a slur, and to those who would own it.

I have to wonder if it's worth doing. There are a great many things, after all, that one does not say around certain groups of people. It has always been so. What do we get out of the investment? I don't really see the cost of the status quo, accept people complaining about this relatively harmless double-standard amid a sea of others that are more important.

We brought the usage of the word in today society because we let it, and people see we say it so they don't see the problem with saying it either. We brought it upon ourselves. Enough said.

thats ok if i do then im sure the wife will find out and i will be in trouble. but let me just say this. i am and will never be racist. i have on occasions been extremely angry with certain individuals and let it slip through. everyone when they are angry lets thing they dont personally agree with slip at some point.but for fun and to get a little rile out of people expecially on modern warefare 2 it is quite fun to get in those types of arguments and later end up friending because u know it is all in fun.

Neither am I. My girl is white we do rascist jokes at eachother all day. Its extremely funny. Sometmes we do it outside in front of people. People be looking scared and like they wanna say something so bad.
