GameStop Prices

In the Mega Man discussion thread, people told me I should give Mega Man X Collection a try. Curious about it, I went to GameStop's website to see the price, and I must say that I find it ridiculous:

Basically, the PS2 version of the game is $11 more than the GC version, despite a review online saying that both games had absolutely identical gameplay.

Worse, the closest gamestop with the GC version is 14 miles away, while the closest GS with the PS2 version is 3 miles away.

I don't know how to respond to this.

EDIT: Apparently the PS2 price is just for online and doesn't apply to stores. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing for me, guess I'd have to see a store for myself to find out.

Hopefully it's cheaper from the store. But a different price is dumb though. But I heard that the GC had faster loading times while the PS2 had better sound and graphic quality, but that shouldn't affect the price should it?

You could get it for free by getting 2 PS2 games because the 3rd is free xD

Yeah Gamestop does stuff like that which annoys me, but the thing is Gamestop has the best prices in my town, way better than best buy.

Game-stop rips people off all the time. I tried making a trade-in and they offered me 10 cents for one game and a dollar for another (a Gameboy SP game and a Gamecube game).

Not to mention their prices. There are games that are so ridiculously old and are still priced so high...

Try Costco. They have considerably lower prices. Not by much, but lower.

Their pieces I find are okay & sometimes reasonable. I mean if the game is used, obviously they price it by the condition the game itself is it. If it's new it's most likely going to be the same price everywhere else.

In general I'm just fine with the prices, but in this particular situation, it's completely.....well, detestable.

Having Mega Man X Collection being $11 more on PS2 than on GC when the content has been said to be exactly the same is just wrong. Hopefully this isn't the case in the stores or I may never bother with this game.

Well, it IS a PS2 game after all, and GC games are usually cheaper than anything. But that being said, if they're the same and it's $11 more, I wouldn't bother with it. GS usually does rip-off people with their prices, but what kind of game store doesn't? (Not a general store that sells games, a game-only type of store.) Though some are reasonable, most of the popular ones aren't, which is why I don't go to them.

Example one:

I went to GS once (a long time ago) to buy UN3, and it was at LEAST 20 bucks more than the store I usually go to. A total rip-off, so I just said no thanks and left. There would be no reason to spend more than going to a different place with the same thing for a cheaper price. The place I bought it from had a newly brought-in one and it worked fine too.

That's why I don't bother with GameStop anymore. xD

I could understand if it was like Mega Man Anniversary Collection where there was different unlockable content and it was like $5 or so more.

It just baffles me how the same stuff is $11 more, if it wasn't that much higher I might still consider buying it, but I need to save the little money I have left.

How GS hasn't been sued for thier insane price gauging baffles me. At mine, I could take in Final Fantasy XIII and they would give me $10-$15 for it. They will then sell it for $55 and get ALL the profit because it is used. They're making a $40+ on that one game. It's insane!

gamestop does crazy things with prices, but buying used is WAY cheaper than buying new, especialy in the economy. also if you get powerup rewards you get a %10 discount plus the subscription to game informer

Yeah I just wanted a pokemon platinum they charged my almost 40 bucks for it. Yes this is when Heartgold and Soulsilver were already out, like for a long time.

Luckily my dad felt my pain and pitched in because he knows that those prices are insane.

Yeah luckily I have two other game stores that are closer than gamestop. I only go to GS if I'm in the area on that day and if the other stores don't stock the game I want
