If Sarutobi is the 3rd Hokage, and Minato is the 4th Hokage, then why is Sarutobi the Hokage in the begginning of the show, then after he dies Tsunade becomes Hokage. Since Sarutobi is the 3rd, then why is he the Hokage after Minato(4th)?

I think because the 3rd is retiring and he he wanted another hokage in his place. So he chose Minato and then Minota died and the 3rd has to go back being a Hokage.

No, ive watched it since it came to america. I just wasn't sure if Sarutobi was Hokage before Minato died. I thought that's what happened, I just wasnt sure.

WEll, what happened, was without revealing much info,
Minato dies defeating the Nine-Tails and sealing it inside Naruto
and Sarutobi takes over because Minato did not have the time to choose a successor
so Sarutobi takes over, and after he dies the Village advisors ask Tsunade to become hokage later.

Minato was promoted to Fourth because Sarutobi retired. When he was killed fighting the Nine-tails rather then find a new Kage Sarutobi was reinstated. Technically Sarutobi was 3rd and 5th, but they don't explain that in the series. Rather then give him both titles Tsunade picks up as the 5th Hokage.

sarutobi was going to retired..but the 4th died so the village council decided that hiruzen sarutobi should go back to his place..
