Like Jutsu Junkie said, it depends on how liberal your church is. Mine is in Atlanta so it's quite liberal, so everybody is always asking theoretical questions all the time, but it's okay.

That, and religious discussions are very interesting and good for you intellect. As Jutsu Junkie also said, do some research.

Well like I said to him I haven't been to any church for a while.

And yeah it is good to know a little about religiouns. Sometimes I am a little curious about them and how they go. I never really get into religioun though since its basically one of the big reasons why there has been war and stuff.

Most wars are actually a struggle for resource dominance, not religion. Sometimes religion is used as an excuse, like in the crusades. Basically, the Pope looked around and saw his Christian vassals destroying each other in feudal wars over resources. To distract them from their "fratricide" he sicked his dogs on the Holy Land. After all, it was threatening his coffers. When crops are churned up by competing armies, the tithes start to dry up. Always take claims of religious violence with a grain of salt. Usually, lurking in the shadows, is a cynical old man looking to gain some power. Another good example is communism, an atheist ideology, which proves that you don't need religion to murder tens of millions of people. A warrior may fight for his god perhaps, but he is sent to fight for secular power.

Religion is always used as an excuse. The only TRUE wars fought in the name of religion are Muhammad's reign, everything after was political, the 16th century French civil wars (just little battles), The Chinese Taipist wars, named one of the bloodiest civil wars ever. Every other thing using war has been plain BS

Agnostic. I pretty much have my own beliefs of how the world was created. I do believe in God, but I believe in evolution also. I pretty much take a little bit from every religion.

I'd like to know how many people here think Catholics aren't Christians. And I don't mean in the sense of, "this is how you get saved," but just being a part of Christian tradition.

None of these actually

I'm a deist, meaning I believe in God but I don't think he interferes with people's lives.

A famous person who was also a deist was Thomas Jefferson.

Technically you DO BELIEVE fully, after all, we also said god made the laws of physics so it works by himself etc. etc. Essentially you ARE nowhere near atheist or agnostic, and in OUR book at least, have a chance of heaven. BUT THAT'S IN OUR BOOK of course. So, the question IS, do you believe in any sort of afterlife?

The thing is, Catholics are Christians, however most people who classify them selves as Christian today are part of offshoots of Protestantism. Catholics happen to be part of the oldest Christian denominations.

As to Deists, they choose this so that they wouldn't be accused of bias. Same with calling themselves Naturalists instead of Scientists.

A lot of people -- I mean a lot -- think that their own sect has the Way to Heaven, and that because (in their eyes) Catholics don't, they aren't Christians. Some think they are a Marian cult, and therefore not followers of Christ. Some seem to think they just aren't even part of Christian history, in the same way Hindus are not part of that history. This of course is just entirely wrong, but people persist in this belief even now.

So she's not among the "doomed people"? LOL, I always thought that quote was pretentious, but then it was from the Middle Ages...

Actually, in absolute terms, there are far more Catholics than Protestants. Consider almost all of South America, a good slice of Northeast America, most of Europe. Protestants are mostly in Northern Europe, England, and North America. Still, I'd say Martin Luther did a good job of it...

You're not reading what I am saying. I wasn't talking statistically, I am saying if you ask someone if their Christian they usually list a denomination other than Catholic. A Catholic will just tell you their Catholic, a Protestant will more than likely state that they are Christian. I am aware of the number of Catholics in population over Protestant, I am speaking of what people admit to being one or the other. Though this is hearsay as I have failed to find a source...
