If they are just trying to help then it shouldn't matter. They are just doing a good deed and helping out new members to further forum growth. It's not punishing. You're just rooting out the fakers.

No it doesn't but it's part of the rules not to spam. So why start teaching them to do it from the start when it can hurt their experience later on?

That's when you just tell them to stop and delete their posts, but as you can see.... no mod or admin has told them to stop. Which means, they don't really care or are just too lazy.

But why go through the trouble of telling people over and over again when you can just move the thread and not worry about it? It's a simple fix and will keep the forum rules intact by taking away a thread of pure spam.

It's one thread, people do say hi there and start a chat there. If that's not a welcoming environment, I don't know what is. Yeah, I guess it would be considered spam, but one welcome thread as opposed to re-opening the entire sub-section just for welcoming is not that bad. Posts that are made there have a very small impact anyways.

It is a welcoming environment. But the rules state that spamming isn't allowed and that's what they do in that thread. Granted there are the odd few that actually go and help out but moving it will get more people to follow forum rules.

If I used it like some people do my post count would be twice as high as it is right now. And all I would have done was "welcome" people.

Fine. I'll close it and start a new Welcome Members thread in Off-Topic. I will be making a new custom message that will be PM'd to new members anyways, so I guess I can link the welcome thread there. This avoids sticking that thread and everyone is happy.

Yes, it will stay for now. There's over 5k posts in that thread and moving it will cause a lot of people to lose a lot of their counted posts. It will cause a lot of confusion/drama so it's better if it stays right there. Also, I'm not allowed to move threads that big that will lose a lot post count for that very same reason.
