We should have a spell check option

We all hate when someone spells horrid ~~like me~~ and you can't understand them... Most people are to lazy to look up the word [ect] to figure out how to spell something. Plus most user's don't use fire fox or Chrome.

Any ways it will save us from spending a long time trying to read post like this:

I'll just say that I find it mildly depressing that people can't take it upon themselves to learn how to spell. Instead they need to rely on a program to fix their errors for them. >_>

I'm neither for nor against it. I won't deny that it helps spotting the screw ups easier, but I think too many people would rely on it when they really should just learn to type in the first place before stepping foot onto any forum.

Well, Chrome and Firefox both have inbuilt spellcheckers, and here is an add on for IE.

Look at it this way; if people want to use spellcheck, they will use this. If they don't, a forum option won't change a thing.

People probably wont because it's a forum and the internet. But either way it would help some.

@TDZ: I think ~~a lot of~~ people on here might find though instructions for the add on 'hard'.

Some people have bad spelling, don't gang up on them, it's a fact of life! Some may not even be from this country and may not have the greatest knowledge of English.

Plus, this forum does have a spell check. Just keep looking at where the spolier face is. You just have to download it which many won't do because they just don't trust it.

well, even spell check can't check everything! it most certainly can't check the grammar on here. the thing is, it's a peice of software, so it can't fix everything (exceptions, exceptions to the exception). and some things we wouldn't really consider a word (like cant) it won't catch because it IS word. just take into mind that if you're not as good at english as some people then that's fine. it all depends on your grade. and i just found out that om's a word xD

But that's what tools (like dictionaries) are for. Humans use tools. That's one of the things that makes us so awesome. Spell-checkers are just tools. Frankly, my spelling has gotten better over time with them, as familiarizing myself with a word that I misspell increases the chance that I won't misspell it in the future. I see it as an educational aid that gets the job done with less interruption than a dictionary. I used to be terrible at spelling and typing. If it weren't for computers (and spell-checkers) I wouldn't type at 90 words/minute, nor would I be as good at spelling and grammar.

A spell check option would be pointless in my opinion. You should know how to spell yourself. Those who can't spell properly...too bad for them I guess.

Besides, I've had some work with spell check options in the past. They're really a pain and they don't do much.

The first thing I thought when I read this thread was what TDZ put forth-

The browsers you use to access this site, even mobile ones like iPhone's Safari, already have built in spell check that activates and works as you type.

So it's safe to say a superior version of spell checking to anything I could program into our site has already been in place for 95% of our users from day one, and continues to be, only improving in quality over time. It also points out the saddening fact that most people seem to be against using it with a vengeance, perhaps seeking to spite it in the case of users like trouble, where everything they type is gibberish
