Well, I suggest that you make sure you know how to do all the basics, and then just practice a heck of a lot with the characters who's moveset you feel the most comfortable with. That's all there is to it really.

get good at hand signs paper bombs and y cancels. i wreck spammers with kakashi gaara and naruto XD.. XD

ummm thease are some of my tricks (i use nunchuk)
if u get knocked down do the wake up thing AND plant a pb (paper bomb) then crush them with a combo.

kakashi: down A then plant a pb and combo them.
throw, up a, side weak,y cancel, normal weak combo

naruto: when the opponent is guarding do weak attack 5 times then throw. almost breaks guard and throws them, leaving them open for a combo. down weak 1 time, A A A then air special

gaara: in the combo where gaara punches a few times then teleports and does ring of sand, when he teleports as he kicks u do a y cancel and then u can combo them some more.

hey try this it a skill that i was never defeated in on wi fi battle well i got beaten once but say like this study your oponents move this my sound like it came of of the karate kid but like how kakashi when he do his combo he jumps in the air when he does that you can throw a kunia knife or jump in the and throw them down on the ground or you wait till they get on the ground to do a combo study the character movesets yeah thats how i do it try that

You need to know your favorite character moveset, like their best combos, cancels, and know what your enemy can do will help you precidt the attack...
For exemple you might know that som Sasuke users will jump teleport and spam sword attacks.
