Tobi is a random Mist shinobi who helped Madara found the akatsuki. After Madara died he assumed his identity and took over the organization. As he put it himself, Tobi is a "nobody"

my guess. just dont think its madara himself because madara's body and soul were ressureted with ed. even if tobi was madara in a different body, madara only has ONE soul, he wouldnt be able to be ressurected if he was still alive right?

on terms of the orochimaru discussion. orochimaru did use other bodies, but that doesnt mean he could ressurect his original body with a dupilicate soul and have TWO orochimarus..

i haven't got this far in the show or magna but i have in the game's. In the games it was stated that Madara was Tobi. He told Saskue it after the fight with Itachi.

Tobi... is none other than Madara Uchiha. But... it is only the mind/spirit of Madara Uchiha, with the body of someone else! There is no way he is in his normal body! Because Kabuto has his first body (I really do think that it is his legitimate body), plus Tobi became somewhat worried and made an allegiance once he saw his real body. My guess would be that he's either in his brother's body (Izuna), or else he's in Kagami Uchiha's body. Whatever body he used, it makes no difference... Madara switching bodies is the reason he can no longer use his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. I believe that he would be limited to what they had at the time of their death. Kagami belonged to Team "Tobi"rama, which Danzo (who has roughly the same age appearance as Tobi) also belonged too. Kagami was said to have died, but that wouldn't stop Madara from using his body. Why would Madara have to use another body? Because Madara, like Orochimaru would have to use some kind of jutsu to expand his life. People who think that Tobi is just some random person, or Madara's son are crazy. We're talking about a guy that knows everything about the Uchiha background, plus everything else like the Sage of Six Paths and how it all started. Let's not forget that whoever Tobi is has the capability to withstand Uchiha and Senju blood in the same body (Sharingan/Rinnegan, also claiming that he is the Second Sage of Six Paths)... and for considering himself a "mere shell of my former self", he still possesses exceptional power and transportation jutsu. I think that he knew he was going to lose against The First Hokage so he did some kind of spirit transportation jutsu into a new body (like Orochimaru). Then sent his legitimate body... which is a mere shell, and "lost" in battle. Giving The First Hokage the Nine-Tails (making people believe he won)... but in return Madara got what he wanted, which was The First Hokage's DNA. That's when he was able to make his new body withstand both Uchiha and Senju blood. All of this, would explain the living clone created from the cultivation of The First Hokage's cells that Tobi showed to Kabuto (meaning that Madara must have definitely got his DNA).

I have no Idea if this has already been posted, but I have a very strong feeling that Tobi is in fact The first. I have nothing to back this up and I KNOW that he was revived by Orochimaru in the Leaf invasion, but idk, it's just a hunch, I've seen so many anime and movies where the hero turns into the villain, plus the wrinkles in his face really remind me of the first for some reason. I'm probably wrong but it's just been bothering me not to share this with any1

Alright I'm placing my half of my chips on Obito, one quarter on Shisui, and the last quarter on Izuna. If it's Kagami I'm going to shank myself through my femoral artery for Kishi inserting the most random, inconsequential character into the storyline. I'm just gonna quit on the manga if it's some space time ninjutsu or clone bullsh*t.
