I think he is still alive, because if he is gone, then the beast is supposed to be completely sealed inside the death reaper.

Yeah I think he's alive secretly. Although much of that spawned from the fact that on Naruto.com episode 86 had an image of him. So I thought that maybe he comes back to life or shows up mysteriously. Only now am I starting to realize he may be truly dead. Or he might still be alive like his old sensei...

Here is why I said he is alive:
How did Minato know of Pain being a pawn.
How did he know about Akutsuki.
How did he know about the Masked man.
He might be spying on Madara, and that could be why he did not take his mask off, or I think that Danzou is Izuno taking orders from Madara, and Madara is hiding because, he might know someone is spying on him.

I think he's dead. Didn't he come in to Naruto as a "spirit"? If he's a spirit, then hes dead.

it wasnt a spirit, really, it was his chakra within naruto that he left incase the seal broke, remember when he said, my chakra is running out, and he was gonna need to go soon?

I very much doubt it (the evidence is overwhelming in the opposing case), but until it's confirmed, I guess we'll have to wait for Mr. Kishimoto to let us know!
