Well, since this is "the official US site" or whatever you have to assume that a good bit of the people in these forums are Americans. We Americans have "American football." So, the game where you actually kick a ball with your foot has to be called soccer.

well technically its called football by fifa which is a global company so everywhere in the world it is technically football
and btw in american football you only kick it like 5 times a game

In real life, I say "futebol"...that's how we say it in Portuguese!
When I'm speaking/writing in English, I usually say "football"...like British people do!
However, in the forums I say "soccer"...because it's how American people call it!

im scottish so to me it is football and to me american football is a more safe (less tough) version of rugby because in american football they use protective gear ( i dont know if there are any differences in the rules)

there are huge differences in the rules, and actually american football has over twice as many injuries than soccer or any other sport, it has something to do with 300lb players slamming into each other.
