The Bad Samaritan Debate.

Ok here's the situation:

You're strolling down Memory Lane when upon taking a turn on Mulberry Street you see a dying innocent man. The man has been shot and needs medical
attention immediately. The man begs "Please...call 911." Yet you do not.
In fact you just watch the man die and then you walk away.
Note: The area you are in is safe. The shooter had spontaneously combusted earlier.
Also for those wondering, if you DO call 911. The man who has been shot WILL survive.

Is this wrong? If so why? If not, why not?

This entire debate is subjective

What if you hadn't done it out of pure shock, and you were just a little too late
What if it was obvious that he was going to die, is it better to call 911 or honor him as he dies
How about in WHAT WAY you go away or how you react and sub react

I mean, there's a huge list of problems. But overall it's definitely NOT GOOD, but not necessarily BAD

Yes. If the person was able to talk, he was not exactly on death's door quite yet. You would have to be a turtle not to be able to pick up a phone.

I disagree, if the person was shot in the leg and bleeding out badly, chances are he could have begged you to call 911.

If they were shot in the leg, they'd be able to move the upper portions of their body to wrap the wound in clothing or something.

I'm not even sure what you guys are disagreeing on here....you're both saying it's bad, right? But are you disagreeing on whether the shot person has the responsibility of helping him/herself? That doesn't make sense, what if it's more than just the leg you know

Debate? I think that when you put debate in the title you imply, whether you intend to or not, that one can actually win it. I don't think this is the type of thing where one side is more correct than the other. You can say it was wrong, you can say it wasn't wrong, but either way, your point of view is perfectly acceptable. As for myself, I'd say it was wrong, but I won't argue that other people should agree with me. You just pick your own side and we'll leave it at that.

I don't think it was bad not to call. You are not obligated to help anyone who asks for help. Plus the guy is dead already so why would you still discuss about wether it is right or wrong? The dead man can't complain anyway. Speaking of him he probably doesn't have to suffer anymore. I think either he will be a ghost, go to heaven or hell - if he goes there it was probably a good thing you did't help- or where ever you believe in.

Its wrong to do nothing. You could have saved the man's life by just a phone call. If you stand there and watch, you're just as guilty as the man who shot him.

Sorry I wasn't more specific before but if you call 911 the man's life
will be saved. If you don't then he dies. The situation here is that you
can help someone who needs help but you choose not to. So is that wrong?

Yes it's wrong. The killer spontaneously combusted, which would leave greasy residue everywhere, so not like it wouldn't be noticeable. Which means you can't be fearing for your own life. Thus, Not helping the victim is very wrong.
