Summons

We see summons all the time. Usually of regular animals. Where does Pein get his summons and what are they?

I guess it could symbolize his power or the power of the rinnegan. Because the rinnegan has unknown power and the beasts have unknown origins.

In the ninja world, summons can be as rare as the Toads or can be common though i don't know a common one. When you see the Pein summon's, you have to think, is their a contract or are these summon's dead.

when a summon dies, it would either stay in the real word, or go back to the summon world. the body doesn't instantly dissapear. It's just the matter on how you would get it.

I'd expect them to go back to the Summon World where they can be summoned again after a set amount of time

Didn't sasuke kill manda by using him as a shield from deidara's blast? I'm pretty sure it just poofed back immediately... though I'm not sure.

The animals he uses are probably just dead monsters. I don't think there's any kind of demon world, or anything he has to sign, because their part of his rinnegan, and their all different animals, as opposed to just summoning snakes or toads. If he can summon his other members without needing to sign anything it doesn't surprise me he can summon those ferocious monsters.

The only thing I'm not sure about is where they are, and what they do when they're not summoned. At first I thought he kept them in an underground lair, or something along those lines. But that sounds more like an excuse than a reason, so I'm not sure about that...

Hmm. Maybe. But where in the village? These aren't exactly "tame" summons. How does he keep them from tearing the village apart? It could be his rinnegan controlling them...

Could be put into a temporary hibernation statis, or maybe they just stop the charka flow to them, because they're dead and need charka to move and attack.

If he can stop the chakra flow to his receptors (because I'm not completely sure he can do that), that's probably right. I don't see how else he could have done it.

If you mean the summons (as in people) All 6th paths of pain are actually corpses that Nagato and Konan place those chakra receivers in. Basically I'm guessing Nagato uses chakra from his doujutsu to power the receivers and control them. If you're asking about the Animal Path, I wouldn't know if He or she signed those contracts, but considering they also had the Chakra receivers and the Rinnegan so possibly those were also corpses.

But anyway back to the question about where they come from, All summons, apparently, live in a different area. Just like the reversed summons used to take Naruto to the Toad Mountain and back to Konoha. They happen to be in the same world, but location wise is still undiscussed.
