Do you agree with the "Don't tell don't do" policy ?

I think I have that worded wrong...but anyways..the policy I am speaking of is the one where if you are labeled as a bi, gay, hermaphrodite, or transgender, you will be discharged from the military. Many men and women in the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines are continuously discharged due to people ratting them out to superior officers because they slept or kissed or whatever someone of the same gender or have openly admitted to being one of those.

I find this to be a downright violation of rights. This is like treating the gay community as the africans were treated in the early 1900's. African-Americans weren't even allowed to shoot weapons in early World Wars and before then. Nor could they even surpass a certain rank.

Why not let a gay man fly a jet? Why not let a gay woman become a medic that would save countless lives? I don't understand how this is even accepted today in our society.


Some of these people who don't get discharged have to hide their trueselves and protect a country that doesn't even want them in the place they are at just because of who they are...it seriously disgusts me.

So I ask what is your opinion on the matter?

It is mind boggling to me that we let illegal aliens (from all sorts of countries) come here freely and join the military and have full rights, yet those who are american born but are Gay aka destroyers of suburbia have no rights to join the military. Welcome to the "free" country.

It's for their own good really. If you are in a bathroom full of straight men and they know you are openly gay, you are going to have some problems. Plus it's the military's job to mold and brainwash you. If a soldier is constantly worrying about getting harrassed by their comrades, they won't be a good soldier.

Here's my personal take:

Morally and lawfully, it's wrong.

Logically, it's right.

There is far too much outright prejudice to homosexuals, bisexuals, etc. for them to be able to do their jobs well. How can you defend your country from terrorism when you may end up questioning your country's ideals for sexuality, race, religion, etc?

While various sexualities are becoming more widely accepted, we still haven't reached the point where everyone is fine with their bunk mate being gay. It not only provides a huge distraction to some, but it can lead to outright violence, disgust, and an unstable mindset, none of which can be tolerated or risked when you're in the military.
