Viz Translation of Lee's Drunken Fist? Yea or Neh?

Was anyone a little bit bothered by Viz's Dub of Rock Lee's Drucken fist to "Loopy Fist"? I know this has long since passed in the English Dub, but it still really bothers me and ruins what had the potential to be an awesome fight sequence. Ya... that's pretty much it, so what do all of you think?

OMG! I was so mad when I saw that episode on tv. First let me explain, I'm a huge Lee fangirl and those couple of episodes are my favorite in the whole series. When I started watching it and Lee drinks the sake and there wasn't any blush, I got a little mad. I could live with out the blush but "Loopy Fist" that was the stupidest thing I have ever heard. It could of been something much better then that. But everything is ok now because as soon as it came out uncut in the boxset I bought it and it was "Drunken Fist" So now I'm happy.

I almost went berserk when I saw that episode! I mean Loopy Fist? COME ON!! We can handle blood and that stuff but not some drunken references? Take the opening GOO!!! for example one part is you punch like a drunken rider and they changed those subtitles to Hit it like a straight line drive!! That kinda made me mad..

yeah that's what sucks about english dubs,just imagin when Hidan's voice is dubbed,no cussing at all...

Omg I hated how they translated it! And also how they couldn't show the red on Lee's cheeks cuz they don't wanna promote drinking excessively. Thank god we have uncut box sets.

Hopefully english Shippuden will be aired on adult swim so that they can cuss, more blood and whatnot.

I was like O_o when I first heard the translation.
Loopy fist? That's just plain weird. It kind of loses its feeling.

well if you saw dattebayo's subs on those episodes, then they werent what he was really sayin. subbers just like to spice things up when they add some of the cussing, and they remodel sentences so they can make more sense to us.

and what religion is hidan? i dont really know because i dont read manga and ive only seen very few subbed episodes

well if you saw dattebayo's subs on those episodes, then they werent what he was really sayin. subbers just like to spice things up when they add some of the cussing, and they remodel sentences so they can make more sense to us.

As someone mentioned, rent or buy the episode uncut. It has "drunken fist" on it.

Underage drinking in a cartoon/anime is always censored for tv. It doesn't matter if it's Naruto or some other show. It's based on FCC guidelines.

I'll admit, I laughed when I first heard "Loopy Fist". However, it soon sounded really crappy and it kinda annoyed me.

Lee will destroy people with a Loopy Fist! That really doesn't sound right......

It's totally stupid how they changed "Sake" into "Elixer" too!

And I can't really remember, But I think in the english episode they cut out the scene of Lee getting drunk in that resteraunt. Didn't they?

I'd like to point out that the definition of "Loopy" includes "Intoxication" and "Drunkenness", and the definition of Elixir includes "An alcoholic beverage", so their translation was still accurate, if not the desired results.

That's definitely more what we were going for. The main problem with Lee's coolest fighting style is that it involves him both drinking and being underage (atleast by American standards), which put us in a bit of a spot
