Kid Leashes and Harnesses

So I just want to know what the rest of you think about parents putting those body harnesses and leashes on their kids. I personally hate it. It's not an effin pet, it's your kid. How hard is it to hold the childs hand? Or stop being lazy and keep an eye on them? I understand if your a redneck family with an in bred child but still a leash?! I don't see any significance in using one except to show how much of a control freak of a parent you are by using them. I know some people are going to say, "It's for safety"....what safety? There are parents all over who use a simple hand hold technique that seems to be able to keep their children out of harms way or at least a huge portion of it. And In my opinion, if your child doesn't take risks at a young age they won't learn necessary lessons (there is a fine line on that however such as going in the pool without floaties and other possible death causing actions). It seriously disgusts me though when I see parents tugging on the leashes and saying No! like their kid is a dog.

So what do you guys think? Are they really necessary? Do you think they are cruel and unusual? Would you use them on your kids? How would you feel if your parents did that to you?

No, your shouldn't use them. Nothing wrong about animals, I love animals. But leashes are for dogs, Not humans. I have an extremely hyper brother and he usually tries to pull away when my mom wants to hold his hand, that may be why some people use leashes, because they just can't put up with it any longer. But I say that if they do that, teach them disicplence and not take them to the zoo or where ever your takeing them. drop them at a daycare while the rest of them go. it will teach them how to behave better next time so they won't have to miss out on the fun again, as said by my aunt. oh and Why I used the zoo as an example, is because the only time i've seen those leashes was at the zoo. where I live I don't think they are that common.

But mabey they also use the leashes to teach a lesson, because if my mother put me on a leash... I'd be like. "OK I'LL STOP NOW GET ME OUT OF THIS DOG HARNESS!" it would also be super embaressing to wear one so I still say no they should not be used.

I personally HATE it when parents put their children on leashes. I've seen this in a lot of places; the playground, walmart,...! A child is not a pet, you can trust your child, and it has diapers, so it doesn't pee everywhere like an untrained dog.

I once saw a woman using a red leash for her toddler, and I was disgusted. That kid was old enough to have its own freedom. Besides, part of my childhood was always trying things out, and that's how you learn things like "don't touch a burning candle" or "don't walk in front of the swings"...

But if you're on a leash all day, wouldn't you be bored? That toddler still has to experience things his own way, to explore and discover that some things are dangerous. And you don't need a leash to keep your child safe. For the exact reason you said, Jin, holding your kid's hand, or simply keeping an eye on it lets the child explore and have fun, while it's still safe.

I seriously think it's inhuman to keep a child on a leash. Dogs, yes, but your very own daughter or son?

As said before, I'm glad someone sees it my way.

I don't see anything wrong with kids on leashes. Personally I find it kinda funny little kids on leashes. It shows you that they are monsters and won't listen to the parents. Then the kids probably would run away if their parents looks a different way. With parents holding the kids hands, their hands are little and can slip out, what if their hands are sweaty? The kid can get away then. Also, when I see the kids on leashes they seem pretty happy! LOL XD

Anyways Kids and humans not pets. I don't see any need to put a leash on a kid. Thats just stupid and makes you look bad due to the fact you can't control your kid without having to put a leash around his/her neck.

Well, in most cases I agree that I hate it. But however, if the kid really needs a leash, then i see the need for it. Like a good example is when I saw this one kid bolting for a busy street, and the parents barely had time to catch him, and then he tried it again. Now THAT kid needs a leash, otherwise I think it is very very wrong.

I agree and disagree... depends on how it is used and how often.
It's a dangerous world and if it can keep a kid from running out into a crowd or a street then I'm all for it.
As for the parents that use it to be lazy, well, they should be brought around on a leash..
and maybe be whipped...
