How to lock a topic?

How does one lock a topic? Help would be appreciated (idk if I spelled that word right).

Only moderators are able to lock topics, otherwise it wouldn't be very good if people arbitrarily decided to lock up discussions.

What topic did you want to lock?

No topic right now, but are people allowed to request to lock the topic in the topic?

I suppose so, but you'd probably have to have some kind of good reason, and I wouldn't want to make it a common occurrence.

I'm trying to imagine reasons why you'd want to. Got any?
