why cant we just use our own avatars
i saw the other thread's saying when's the new avatars well why not just use our own |

I say copyright.
This is an official site. That means that any fan art of any kind is not allowed. If custom avatars were allowed, then fan art would inevitably pop up, so the privaledge would be taken away. I believe that it was suggested that responsible members could get their own avatar, but that idea was never followed through.

I can understand your point, however, it might depend on what avatars you are looking to post.
The admins here are very caution with the Copyright restrictions, and they have every reason to be. As a whole, we could get into some trouble if we use materials that we do not have permission to use, such as images from an Artist. However, I do not know exactly what these punishments are, so I cannot explain that to you. If they were to allow the use of custom avatars, people would probably upload images from a different anime, and then the Admins would no longer just have to worry about the Naruto Copyrights. Things could become rather frantic for them.

I realize you can do it on many sites, but most anime companies would not sure their fans, and even if they would... well the fans couldn't pay a $90,000 settlement for intellectual property violations. viz is a big company, and would have to. So it isn't gonna happen. Laws suck, and being a real company viz has to play by the rules. Long version. Screw it, you can live with the medium version.

I'm thinking if they implement it, which won't be for a while due to lockdown, it won't be available to everyone. Seeing as if they let us upload our own avatars, snyone who joins can then cause havoc via an inappropriate picture. Therefore, it makes sense to give it with a requirement of rep and posting.
