Manga is faster then the Anime but shorter but with the Anime you can actually see the action. So i go with both.

After ep 166, i def have to say anime. I usually just read the manga because it's so much more convenient and less time consuming, but the anime definitely captures so much more of the characters emotions and the energy of the situation. The people who make the anime are really, really great at incorporating music and visual elements to really bring out the characters and the moment. They did a really good job around asuma's death as well. The anime just makes the scenes so beautiful and really striking...
I am probably the farthest thing from a naruhina fan you can get, but how artfully ep 166 was done still had me tearing up. xD I think you feel a lot more sympathy for the characters through the anime, because there are a lot more mediums to work with. =o |

anime - that's what i started out with, then i found the manga online and tried to read that as well, right from the beginning, but it got confusing so i skipped a head to where i was in shippuden ... but there was soooo many fillers i got confused and gave up DX
