Yes but he'll have to be summoned to the mountain, enter sage mode, leave two clones in sage mode and return, so i don't think sage mode will appear unless there's some rest periods between battle

Now I think Kishimoto could be well talking about this.
Tobi might destroy Yamato.Or even Kakashi.
But more things might come for Kakashi such as how he got MS.

Remember another Kishimoto line:

Kishimoto said 2 big characters of Konoha will die so he might be the 2nd one along with Jiraya.

Also Tobi might leave Yamato unable to fight since he uses the near same techniques as Hashirama.So he might get annoyed or wants slight revenge for his loss by seriously injuring him or maybe even killing him instead of Kakashi.

Anyhow..I think either Kakashi or Yamato wont survive this.
