This has been discussed over and over..
After Storm 1, CC2 decided to take a different approach with ultimates. Idk if anyone noticed this, but in Storm 1 and everything before it mostly consisted of long sequences of random stuff for ultimate jutsu rather than a sole jutsu. In a way, they are keeping the game closer to the anime/manga by making the ultimate jutsu just.. well , jutsu. What I don't like about Long ultimates is that they are too detailed. This makes the ultimate feel... unlike the anime/manga. And it feels weird to see Naruto(and other characters) do the same exact long sequences over and over again in the same match, saying the same exact lines.. it doesn't feel right, as opposed to Naruto simply using a rasen shuriken and thats all she wrote. Its hard to explain what I'm thinking in words, so i can understand if this makes zero sense For example, what makes the battle feel like a REAL anime/manga battle: Spoiler:
This is why Bee's Storm 2 ultimate has always been my favorite. Its SO undetailed/unchanged that it actually looks like something straight out of the manga. The shortness of the Storm 2 ultimates is good IMO. Long Ultimates usually consist of three elements: 1)An intro(Character says some line or activates the jutsu) 2)the sequence (Jutsu+other random crap thrown in) 3)the outro (Character says some line) In Storm 2 ultimates, the intro has been removed from the cinematic itself, but is present when you actually activate the ultimate (YY+B) and in the TUJ intro. This also makes it closer to the anime. I'd rather watch Sasuke start a chidori and sprint towards the enemy than Sasuke kicking the enemy first and then starting the chidori in a cinematic. Closer to the anime. Outros have been included in some people's ultimates. For example, Darui. And some long ultimates are a pain to watch. Yes, I'm talkin about friggin Firsties. And another thing about the first UN series.. it always cut away to some random wasteland. Like, pretty sure we're in Konoha , idkk how we got to some random friggin wasteland.

I agree with you on all points, Sora. The ulimates since Storm 2 may be shorter, but that doesn't mean they are any worse. They get to the point, but still manage to be awesome, unlike the ones in the original UN series. I was annoyed with the shortness at first, but they've grown on me.

Personally i like longer ultimates better(could be nostalgia from UN series)
I dont really play the game to see exactly what happned in the anime liked the lil personal dbz twist cc2 used to give the ougis. But CC2 has improved their ultimates from the ground up and im satisfied with all the new ones. Their good. But just a few things that would make it so much better. The Intro, Doesnt have to be long just the characters saying 1 sentence or simply see you character knock the other guy away (kinda like CS2 sasuke storm 1 ougi) would be fine.It just build the mood, as soon as you hear that line your char gets slammed like a ragdoll you know your effed. It simply builds more tension you can just see the fail in your opponents eyes when you give them time to realise they got hit with it(i play with my bros and friends alot belief that look is the best look ever) Now its just Hey YOU! SPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Outro, They could could replace the current secret factors with outros(so if your character is low on health it would show the outro with the badass/pose line, daruis ougi comes closest but just needs a little more badass. The music, Some pieces of music just set the mood more then the actual ougi does, remember that awesome gitar riff at the end of sasuke chidori ougi. Or that chating/cemetary music when hiruzen does reaper death seal. This really makes the ougis more unique, sets the tone better (and amplifies the 'you know youre effed' feel) without making them longer i really hope the next game includes some ougi with their own background music. After-Ougi Since storm 2/gen CC2 has tried to make up for the shortening of ougi by putting little 'after effects' of the ultimates in the actual game. Which was an awesome idea. For example kisames giant water shark bullet would make it rain , sasuke kirin causes some sparks to appear ofter the ougi etc. They really should do more with it. Especially with madaras ougi. It looks awesome it has everything i wanted, badass lines/cool close ups and ofourse the jutsu itself. But the finish is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO weak. You see your miniscule opponents being crushed by 2 meteors and then at the end *poof* aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand its gone both the meteors and my excitement the ougi looks awesome and then the make it look like the meteors were made out of marshmellow. Them adding tremors/cracks in the ground (or a splosion like the end of sasukes/narutos ougis) would make it so much better. But overal like their current ougi style just wish they would update the older ones and put some awesomebackgroundmusic with them. Intro/outro is optional dont miss em much. Wow lately ive been writing alot of text walls in this section

I would like longer ultimate because they are pretty hard to pull of online anyway.

Time should just stop during an ougi even during these short ones. Imagine going 'time up' during an ougi ,would piss me off.

Longer ultimates were sacrificed to keep the online even, since a player could use the long time it takes to wait out the timer and win a match like that.
You'll begin to notice all of the fun things that made the STORM series iconic are being sacrificed in order to make the online "Fair", even though it's a fruitless effort. That's why we have no jutsu clashes, no choice to start in awakening, no form of interaction between the characters besides Hinata and Naruto/Karin and Sasuke... It was all removed to keep matches quick and fair. Instead they just became mundane and irritating. They've made it so that things such as a Nine-tailed Rasengan hurt as much as an explosive tag to the face (A la Karin). No matter how hard they try, there are some things that are going to be stronger than others. So why not just make the things that should be strong, strong? Instead of logic-defying nerfs that make no sense in the Naruto universe, totally breaking any immersion the game had between it and the anime. Last edited by Rage [VG]; 03-05-2013 at 08:11 AM. |
