Are we allowed to use profanity? or are staff just allowed to do that?

The only word which was forbidden is Fawk, with a uc. Anything else is left to context. So in most instances you can say

, bastard,

,

. It just can't be used in an openly angry manner(aka flaming)

Depends on the profanity at hand and how anal the mod decides to be when viewing it.

F-word = no no. C-word = no no. All the time. No questions asked.
Most others, as long as you're not referring to what the word actually means or calling a person one, it's okay.

You're better off not using them just to be safe. And if you do use them, don't use an excessive amount or insult.

We're not special by the by. You can use words (F..., N..... and Cu.. are forever no's) like that. But as long as you're not pointing it at anyone, flaming, complaining (Ex. leik omg usernamebob was a btch for neg' me bla bl bla), just saying it because you can (List goes on). But we just tend to say "we encourage you not to use them" because ~~most~~ some users on the site don't understand when you can use them and ruins it for everyone.

I've gotten warned to watch my language for using the saying the s-word except with an "e".

But apparently we can say it as long as it's not aggressive so...okay.
But props to SP for asking a legit question because that has been bothering me for sooo long.

If you got infracted for something like the S word, that was an infractor who didn't fully understand the rules on swearing. Most words are okay to use under the right context.

You cannot use the f word, c word or n word in any circumstances. Actually, going further, you're not supposed to use racial slurs at all. You'd maybe be able to get away with racial slurs in a fanfic, depending on its use.

You're also not supposed to use them excessively.
