Don't have a PS3 so never got to play 13.=/

But if you wanna be strict, it's implied Vagrant Story takes place in the Universe of 12.

Oh and Parasite Eve has fragments of FF due to same developer.

You're not really missing anything. The gameplay gets boring after a while becuase there is no MP system.

You only get to play as lightning in 13-3.
In 13, you play as 6 people.
In 13-2, you play as lightning's sister and a guy named Noel. You can also collect monsters to fight with you. Jessie was pretty cool. Wish she could have stuck around some more.
