I kinda did wish he didn't die, but then again, it wouldn't make Kakashi the way who he is now. Personality and characterwise. And the gift, the sharingan.
Kakashi is now Obito's eyes, so it all kinda works out.

But if he was still alive...the story would've been waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy different.
Or maybe he'd still have been slaughtered by Itachi.

And Obito would not be very strong I doubt he would be able to unlock MS

Obito was an underdog, not a disgrace. I view him kind of like Naruto as an Uchiha. His "death" was neccessary, and the story and it's characters would have been drastically changed if Obito actually "died"
