Itachi vs Jiraiya, who would win?

First of all, they're my number 3 and number 1 favorite characters in Naruto respectively. But coming to a battle of them, if Jiraiya had to face Itachi, who would come out victorious? This is a tough match-up, if it were Itachi vs Orochimaru, I'd say Itachi hands down, but Jiraiya is something different. Notice something, I'm not saying who's stronger, because stronger is quite relative, depends on the opponent, I'm asking who'd get the best in a fight between them. Itachi has great genjutsu skills, but I doubt Jiraiya would fall for them(Kakashi was caught unprepared). Jiraiya on the other hand is the toughest taijutsu user in Naruto (yes, I put him on a higher level than Maito Gai, also because Jiraiya's needle hair defense is the ultimate defense against taijutsu, so his taijutsu skills are second to Gai's only when Gai opens the chakra gates, which has consequences on Gai actually), but it's hard to defeat Itachi with plain taijutsu. Itachi has Amaterasu, against which Jiraiya would have a hard time avoiding, so Amaterasu gives Itachi a slight upper edge. Then we have the genjutsu Ma and Pa used with Jiraiya in incomplete Sage Mode, which is different from Itachi's genjutsu's in that if you're caught in Jiraiya's genjutsu, then you're dead, it's not a chakra flow disturbance, it's some sort of a paralyzing genjutsu. Anyway you could go on and on with the techniques, just, who do you think has the upper edge in a fight between them?
My personal choice would be Jiraiya, I think he's even tougher than what he looked in his battle with Pein, he just knew nothing about Pein, while Pein knew everything about him.

Id say that Itachi would win ONLY because of the Susanoo and the Yata Mirror which would block any and all attacks. Plus Itachi's sword of Totsuka would seal Jiraiya up on contact.
Jiraiya vs Itachi is.......
Close range combat and ninjutsu vs. Impenetrable defenses and Impossible to block (have to doge) offense.

shouldntthis be in battlegrounds under Narutoverse??? and it would be close, but assuming Jirraiya can avoid getting caught in Tsukuyomi, Itachi would ave to use Susanoo, and if Jiraiya can avoid htat, id say Jirraiya would win because he has more chakra, has 2 elements, and can summon toads... but it would be very close, and if itachi did win, it would be with his Tsukuyomi or Susanoo, maybe Ammy but it would be really close

Itachi does have amazing genjutsu skills. but jiraiya is the 1 who taught naruto how 2 escape a genjutsu so he culd prolly escape the genjutsu. but unless itachi can finish jiraiya b4 he goes SM then jiraiya wuld have a decent chance of winning. but still i choose itachi bcuz of his MS abilities.

Itachi is an uchiha 1 of da most powerfull clans he can use amatarasu and susanoo. Jirayia is 1 of da leadundary sannin capable of summoning a toad at ease. Which one sounds more intresting? Itachi wins!!!

Itachi will. His jutsu are way more powerful and various than Jiraiya's. Jiraiya's weakness is genjutsu, while its Itachi's strength. Altho Jiraiya did know how to stop genjutsu, its not possible for such a method to work against Tsukuyomi.

I gotta vote Itatchi, love Jaraiya but I mean with all the abilities of his sharringan, plus the fact that he seems to be able to plan events so far ahead he would most likely have a fool proof plan before the fight started.

It would definitely be a fight for the ages though.

Even though i love both characters i'd say Itachi would win.

When we first saw Itachi and Kisame trying to find Naruto in the original series Itachi didn't want to fight Jiraiya because he was a bit scared to fight a Sannin. However after the time-skip i think Itachi would be too strong for him and his Mangekyou Sharingan would be too effective.

Itachi probably had the same skills before the timeskip, he just didn;t show all of them. Same for Jiraiya.

But either way, Jiraiya showed new moves after the timeskip too, so it's not just Itachi who improved.
