Scenario 1: Pokemon must be sent out in this order one after the other. Cannot be switched until one is knocked out.

Scenario 2: Any order starting with Pikachu and Blastoise, can switch out mid-battle.

s2: change the start to Pikachu vs Umbreon because A pikachu has a type advantage over Blastoise and B Eevee and Pikachu were the starters in yellow verison and C Pikachu wants revenge for losing to Umbreon before Ash went to Johto

Ash already beat Gary.

And that was BEFORE Ash's Charizard managed to train enough to defeat an Articuno. I haven't seen the anime since after Johto, does Gary's Pokemon have any new feats?

Pikachu is a walking inconsistency. Seriously he and Ash Ketchum are literally puppets for the anime writers that they have no lasting development in strategy and etc etc.

Ash as a trainer should be growing as a trainer in smarts and intelligence and Pikachu of course in his way as a fighter.

But of course being writers' puppets they are forever denied of that.

They both suck, a 10 year old could figure out how to beat them with a team of Magikarp. In all seriousness Ash would win Charizard is pretty powerful and depending on when this is Pikachu could be any where from lvl. 4 to lvl. 100 lol. If this is end of series Volt Tackle Pikachu Umbreon is done for.

Despite everything, Ash's Pikachu is quite powerful, same for his Charizard, so on that alone Ash beats him, BUT, if Blastoise can take down Charizard, Ash might either get stomped or win by the skin o' his teeth

Well they did develop until the sinnoh region somewhat here and there.

BW took a massive dump on it (for outside reasons) but now it seems to be better. (I actually bothered to watch BW this spring)

BW2 is coming out anyway within less than 2 weeks.

TO be fair from what I read and saw a bit, Paul was actually a serious and better rival. But his back story has a bit of a plot hole as well.

Pikachu sadly replaced Volt Tackle with electro ball in the 20th episode of Black and white

Pikachu curbstomps Blastoise, scrapes through Umbreon, loses to Electrivire, who then pwns Charizard. Torterra tears Electrivire apart, but is shredded by Scizor, who then goes down to Snorlax. Arcanine eventually takes it out, but is sufficiently worn down for Muk to take it out, who then gets crushed by Nidoqueen. Glalie curbstomps Nidoqueen, Ash wins.

In terms of game mechanics only? Gary curbstomps, his Pokemon are all competetive or psuedo-competetive, Ash's are all wank. Aside from Snorlax, that is.
