I believe that children should know of sex at the age of 9, for girls that it because some girls reach puberty at this age. For boys, I say at 10.

Unfortunately in my country, the government does not include Sex Education as a subject taught in school. We were taught to be extremely cautious of it in Religious Schools though.

As for the age where intercourse can be 'practiced' (is that even right? To say practice for intercourse?), I believe after marriage. XD LOL

Children should begin being taught about sexuality and proper hygiene very early by their parents. Expecting someone else, or tv/internet to teach your children is horrible. I know my mom was too embarrassed to have "the talk" with me and I learned everything through friends or other people. It shouldn't be that way though. Sex ed in school can't teach you common sense...

There's an age and a time for everything, as for sexual education, it has to be done before puberty indeed...how early before that should be up to the parents, but around 10-12 year mark should be a good standard to start.....

Frankly in my opinion, should be near the end of primary school before going through puberty.
With me I came from a much more reserved family about talking about such things, I learnt mostly on my own and topped health one year because I had a mature outlook on it already, considering I experienced my first orgasm at the end of my primary school years, also at that same point started masturbating regularly, up to almost two years, before actually getting my first period. I had already figured out the basic things to do with sexual intercourse.

Though more nowadays, it is kind of hard to avoid children even learning about it too early, since the society now, is more open with such matters and can be seen in many different ways and forms, around the globe. None-the-less, it will always be inevitable at some point, that any child learns about anything to do with sexual intercourse, since it is all around people now, you can not avoid it, unless you lock them away from seeing anything or hearing anything about it.

I learned pretty young... I want to say around 3 or 4th grade. My mom just sat me infront of a PBS special that explained everything: puberty, sex, etc... All was explained without religion even coming close to the discussion. I was raised by a single mom, and looking back I think she wasn't sure how to talk about such things when she's not a male. Still, I think once kids begin to feel attracted to the opposite sex is when they should be talked to about sex, which means some kids will be talked to earlier than others. To say there's a set age kids should be talked to is kind of ignorant.

I thin sex education should be an ongoing process beginning in preschool and continuing (with a mentor at least) through the beginning of high school.

I don't want to turn this into a religious debate but there is a huge stigma in America especially, about sex as immoral sexual behavior. The social climate of the country is changing but the people doing the educating aren't necessarily the most qualified (not that the kids learning it are exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer).

I got the proverbial "talk" in it's most basic form when I was four years old, my dad wasn't about that "stork" b.s. This was also around the time I realized to some degree that I was a heterosexual through no choice of my own (I'm assuming this is also where homosexuals begin to realize there sexual identity although it can be earlier or later depending on the individual).

But as a kid you can't really understand the concept of sex I just knew it mechanically, there were plenty of things that were too much for me to understand, for example, I saw a movie where a child was molested and didn't understand that sex was also physically pleasurable. In grade school, kids should have the ideas of "stranger danger" and sexual battery reinforced in their minds as hazardous and inappropriate.

Around middle school is when I had a formal sex ed class, I knew a lot by then but it never hurts to have a refresher course and learning about puberty would be helpful for middle schoolers especially.

In high school, more advanced sociology and psychology classes should be taught as electives or afterschool seminars. High school is more about emotional attachment, instant gratification, or risk assessment. If you're just learning the basics you're in deep sh*t.

Oh and the internet is a magical place you don't have to watch hours or porn (although you can if you want to), just read: wikipedia has tons of info on these topics. Learning via movies and even porn (as least the mainstream stuff) is going to give people this romanticized or unrealistic view of sex in reality.

Well i learned about it whenever i was like 6 or 7...I know, kinda young. but anyway, i guess just whenever, not like a kid will be mentally scarred if they learn about sex at a young age, so just teach them about it whenever you think it's the right time.

About 9-10. That's the age when you already start hearing about it so you might as well hear the right things.

Also i should say i had my first sexual experience at age fifteen, again nothing really bad came of it.

I guess the time to teach it would be around hmm...ages 5-10, and i mean start teaching it, IMO it should be a lengthy process teaching fundamentals of sex itself, safe sex, how reproduction works, as well as the idea of being not only physically ready, but emotionally ready for zeh sexeh times.
