I personaly prefer the subbed over dubbed, just because I've gotten so used to hearing Japanese dialogue.

Personaly...I like dubbed a hell of a lot more. I used to watch subbed, but whenever I started to watch dub I was like "Dayum! this isn't that bad, and the voices arent too bad at all."

I honestly don't understand how you "hate" the dubbed. Isn't it the language you speak? So, you insaulted yourself in a way. Though don't get me wrong, I understand people saying "well, I've watched subbed for so long, and eng dub just dosen't seem right too me." I understand that completely. But for me, imo. The voices are so much better, and Naruto isn't saying the same damn sentence over and over again if you know what I mean.

Naruto, Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura's voices all fit their characters to me, but it's not my descision for other people lol.

But anyway, I prefure dubbed :P

The only voice I've found repelling is Chouji's. Though I have to admit Naruto's voice in Shippuden is a bit grating while I had no qualms with the younger version of that voice in the first series' dub. Even so Chouji remains the most jarring to me and he doesn't show up that often so the dub is fine.

Dubs in the 80s and 90s were pretty laughably bad but beyond the 2000s dubs have increased in quality to the point that complaints about the dub usually has little to do with the acting (unless we're talking about poorly directed kid's show dubs) and more to do with preference for the Japanese voices for the characters and fans feeling there cannot be any American actor equivalent to the original Japanese cast. Dub actors have to work hard for low wages in order to voice characters, it's remarkable when they prove capable of giving equally good performances and sometimes even surpassing the original despite not recording it with the freedom of expression pre-lay allows compared to dubbing existing animation.

Most complaints for dubs these days are petty but if there's more than one version to compare to comparisons are obviously going to be made.

I like a lot of dubs, some more than the original cast but there are plenty which I do not prefer to the Japanese cast and sometimes as objectively as I try to be about acting in cartoons, I cannot put my finger on why that is but I usually base those opinions on whether or not the voice seems to fit the image and whether or not the actor is giving a believable performance. Naruto's dub has always been pretty satisfactory for me.

I don't agree with even one of the original poster's grievances.

Not only that, but the English voices take like 99% of all the humor away.
Oh, and the pronunciation is WAY off.
TL;DR the only good English voices are possessed by the Akatsuki.

2. The re-animation: the minor changes in the facial structure's during the editing, to me, ruin absolutely everything.

3. The delay: I made some 12 year olds cry when I told them Kakashi died. The amount of time between the releases of the subbed version and the dubbed version is just way to broad.

4. It should have never been dubbed: if Cartoon Network was smart, they would just air the subbed versions and teach kids how to read faster. The only reason, I think, the episodes where dubbed is because of the grammatical differences in the language structure. Kids would be wondering why the characters are talking backwards.

I'm fine with the subbed version. I don't need audible translations
ok, dud. I have to say you kind of insaulted yourself in a way here.

1: So, you're saying you find english voices to be "gay" in a way? I'm not following on this. Personaly I find the dubbed to be ten times as funny because I can actualy understand what the characters are saying, thus english voice actors put more spirit into their assigned characters.

Like Sakura for example. I find her actresses voice to suit her perfectly. I'm sure Viz media dosen't just asign people randomly. I'm sure that they face long lines of men and women hoping they get the job.
Naruto's voice isn't bad. I'd like it a lot more if it were actualy a guys voice...

2: Ooooookkkkkaaaaaayyyy...........

3: Well herp derp a derpy derp. You think it's easy to dub an episode? It takes time and the actors have to get the episode within heart and know every line by heart. not to mention they have to time when and how to get the right emotional voices in that episode. Subbs on the other hand only require translation. which can easily be done on several products. Microsoft word for example. (Even though that'd be used more fore like...the manga or to translate a book you know?)

4: Honestly, I have to say that if it werent for Cartoonnetwork I wouldn't have a freaking clue what the hell Naruto is. I'd think it was like a sports company or something like that. And I'm sure I'm not the only one here who shares that back story. So, yes, the show should've been dubbed. and people might actualy WANT to understand and listne to what the characters are saying. Instead of reading what the characters are saying.

You have your opinion, others have theirs. Just leave the dubbs alone and stick with your subbs. It's not like anything is forcing you to watch the other you know.

Okay, I watched one episode in dubbed, I find it okay, I'm just not used to them speaking in English so I prefer to stick with the subbed. The voice actors weren't that bad, I see that it takes effort to actually match the voice and charcaters.

For those that think the dubbed was extremely bad, you have never heard Naruto dubbed in my native tongue have you? My native tongue is Malay. And the voice acting is totally bad, I mean horrible! Comparing the English dubbed to the Malay dubbed... The English dubbed did awesome. ~.~ Appreciate the dubbing in English. XD

Default Re: Why I hate the dubbed episodes

Lol I agree so much here, the dubbed is just absolutely awful and I don't think people understand that, it's not like Dragon Ball Z where Funimation found the perfect voices to match each character (I actually think it sounded BETTER in English because the voices were manlier for each character...an extremely muscular alien warrior shouldn't sound like a small japanese man lol), in Naruto the main character's voice is absolutely awful and in shippuden geez, it sounds like the character who was playing Naruto couldn't find a way to deepen the voice so he/she just made it more gravely post TS, Sasuke, Shikamaru, most of the Akatsuki and Oro have decent voices but just so many characters have voices that don't match their own.

However, the biggest thing I find in English is the dramatic intensity we lose in translation. The emotions seem so much less intense and in situations when a character is extremely angry or about to break you need a "Damn It!" or a "S***" once in a while, but thanks to the FCC here in America we get a "darn it" "curses" "drat" "blast" to me that just makes a serious manga like Naruto look so childish. In Kakashi's first encounter with Kabuto he said "Watch your mouth you little pr***" or something to that effect, you could instantly feel the intensity and animosity between the two, but in the Viz dub you heard "Watch your mouth when your talking to grown ups, you snot nosed little kid," that made me die a little on the inside.

The time delay is a great point to, I still have to watch my mouth around my friend who watches dubbed because he's still watching Oro lose to Sasuke and establish Team Taka lol, the anime is already way behind the manga in Japanese, English just makes it ridiculous.

I can address your bottom two points since the top is mainly opinion.

1) Naruto is a shonen which means it IS aimed at children/10-year-old boys. Kishi is just incredibly lucky that Naruto also appeals to the older crowd(with lotz o moneiz...). So it is 'childish' with big morals and characters that appeal to all of us. If you want serious stuff then read some seinen.

and

2) The Japanese language does NOT have the 'curse' words the English language has. They do have them but they are MUCH milder(like 'you're a jerk' milder). So the English dub can't put all the 'pr***', 'sh**', etc. that they want because that's NOT what the RAWS translate into. The subs however like to literally liter episodes with curse words probably because they want people to feel less embarrassed they're watching what is essentially a kid's show.

But really, if it's just the curse words you want to hear then buy and watch the uncut. It has all the 'damnits!' a person like you would want.

Source(there's a guy in the comments trying to explain that the OP is wrong but the OP explains it to him straight lol).

And I guess it's just differing opinions but I don't think you need curse words to sound more intense. Look at all the cursing we do for silly debating(I know I'm a bad offender lol but I'm trying to tone it down!). Sometimes I watch those Hollywood movies where the actors curse and yell and it just looks and sounds silly and laughable. Personally I believe it's the tone and 'lowness'(I guess that's the word) that really makes a scene.

To use your example.

"Watch your mouth you little pr***".

"Watch your mouth when your talking to grown ups, you snot nosed little kid,"

Assuming pr*** actually what he said(you really need to learn Japanese to be sure. I've learned that subs aren't always reliable especially when it comes to dirty words. Though that's not to say all subs are bad and that I hate them), I actually think they both could have the same level of intensity if the VAs said it the same way. You know, low, deep, threatening, etc.

To me it's not what they say, it's how they say it. And I think the English VAs do a pretty good job matching the Japanese ones.

Yeah that really sucks but it may be because the English VAs have busier schedules. Take Sasuke's VA for instance, Yuri Lowenthal. That guy's in a lot! But I can at least appreciate the fact that at least these VAs really do enjoy voicing for Naruto and actually like the show .

I don't know why others can't hear the passion in their voices cause I can .

I couldnt stand subbed when the Shippuden series began but I coudnt wait for dubs to come out so i forced myself to watch subs and now i canot STAND the dubbed. The voices sound TOOOO scripted and there is a form of delay in words or their mouths dont move exactly on que idk but the voices are annoying and there isnt too much emotion in the voice play at all.. unlike the japanese.. ha ! but i will watch dub just so i dont lose touch and to give my eyes a rest and so i can multi-task hehe

Dub is so much better than sub!!!Yes , it depends on what u like and what you watched first, but here are my reasons:

1. You don't have to bother yourself to read! That's such a drag!

2. The voices match the characters so much better, for example:

Rock Lee sounds so much better dubbed

Kiba sounds awesome

Kakashi sounds laidback and cool!

Guy sounds exactly right!

Iruka sounds kind and friendly!

Shikamaru sounds relaxed and says "what a drag" instead of "how troublesome" as in sub!
