It's been several years since the world went to hell, or more importantly didn't. Your plan had been a great one, you and you alone had discovered the Merlin's greatest weakness. You fulfilled the prophecy, you found the dark vessel, the host that would rise to become the Scion. And for what? Just to have your old master strip you of your powers banishing you to the far reaches of the globe.


It is there in a frigid wasteland that you now reside. Within a small shack covered in ice and sparsely furnished.

Roll Your Awareness*

*an awareness roll is one of the most common rolls, it's your wits + your composure, at the moment you don't have a character sheet. I have stats written down but I'll have to transfer them over so that you can actually see them. For the intro it's not as important as you are currently without the majority of your powers. For the time being you going to roll 5 D10 (wits of 3 + composure of 2)

Having never known joy or experienced pleasure of any kind, my goal is to find a way to make that happen, and destroying creation seemed the only way, all other avenues robbed of me. Thus, when all I had invested fell apart in one go, and revenge on my former master was itself made impossible, I fell into despair and loathing.

So here I am, languidly disemboweling this infant in a futile attempt to experience pleasure through another's pain. I suspend my latest victim on the meathooks and return to my scheming, seeking a way out of this frigid nightmare.

I sip a Kumquat, and reflect.

Cursing myself for leaving a poo-dripping meatbag hanging over my Kumquat, I nevertheless keep a calm countenance as I work out the sensation I feel. It can't be the Pole-Men--failed experiments where I envisioned a race of polar bear/man hybrids to stand guard for me, but which bolted upon first taste of freedom and were snagged by whalers as a species of Yeti--nor could it be my sometime-allies and news-gatherers the narwhals.

Naturally I retreat to my sprawling underground igloo fortress hand-carved by Inuit slaves before sacrificing them to the Arctic Jellyfish god during a time of severe drunkenness.

I forget my frailty.

It occurred to me just prior to faceplanting into the ice-floor that none of what I recalled was anything real, and that I was in fact very dazed.

I eyeball the Kumquat with suspicion and call out to the menace haunting my hovel.

"What, man, WHAT?!"

When you call out your words are returned with soft laughter fallowed by a cruel yet seductive voice, "My my, is this what has become of you? Stripped of your powers, a mere shell. The Merlin truly gave you a fate worst than death."

Though you hear the voice echo off the walls of your shack you still see no other person present. The voice can not be pinpointed, it seems to come from everywhere at once.

"Nonsense! I get free Kumquats for life!" Hmmm, I should have thought to ask where they all came from...

"Besides... all these years in solitude, stripped of the arcane, has only honed the subtler arts. What I've learned through dissection and splicing garners more for me than you can muster with magic!" A bluff, I admit, but in most cases not far from the truth. I couldn't topple the Merlin by magic alone, despite my prowess.

I make like the words do not sting at all, and grab my icicle-spear (surreptitiously of course).

"I admit, you're an amusing creature, but I did not travel all the way to this frigid wasteland just to listen to the rantings of a washed up apprentice. Have you know sanity left in you Nicodemus? Or are you useless to me as well?"
