Chapter 16: Jealousy

Wow. That was the word that summed everything up. It was my reaction, my feelings, and what I thought for the next few minutes as I fell asleep. Soon, I woke up and heard arguing over in a room down the hall. The voices seemed to be the General and Roy.

“It’s four days until they get here, right?” asked Roy.

“It was 4 days before, but according to the scouts, they say two,” responded the General.

“What? Two before they get in firing range?”

“No, until they get into melee range,”

Roy groaned and said, “Uggh. So what now?”

“We need to slow them down, send Peralxi and some special forces. You need to stay here with Sergeant Johnson,”

“…Fine. What should I do?”

“It seems that you’re past is coming back to haunt his. Learn to control your again before continuing memory analysis. Spar with him for a while and teach him more about elemental level twos,”

“I will, I have a short scouting mission to run,” They ended the conversation as I soon fell asleep again.

“Hey, Hayden,” I was woken up with Alex looking over me. “We got a mission in capturing another base before the BD army reaches it,” I changed my clothes and headed out as the team captain. This was a three-man team made of Alex, Alice, and me.

After walking through some tunnels, we reached the base, which was guarded by about 10 BD’s. Before we could react, Alex charged forward and took them all on. He slashed through three at once, as he took down two more with some stab wounds.

We rushed in and destroyed the last few as Alex said, “I didn’t need any help,” We rolled our eyes and moved on. This base wasn’t that hard to take over, as the worst we fought was one level 7. Suddenly, a level six appeared through the ceiling. He looked like a body builder with giant spiked flail in his hand.

“Gust, Ventus,” My scythe disappeared and turned into wind as I swung my arms shot two wind blades at its chest. He managed to dodge one as he spun the metal ball over his head and swung it at us. Alex suddenly used me as a body shield when it almost hit him. I managed to dodge at the last second, but I still took some damage.

“What’s your problem?” Alex pushed me to the side as he rushed in front and dodged the flail again. He rushed and stabbed the bodybuilder in the heart, as he too got gouged in the shoulder. The 6 faded away as I looked at Alex, freaked out.

“A-are you okay?” asked Alice.

“Yeah, I’m fine…” He said smiling.

“Why did you-“ I tried to ask.

“Because I don’t deserve this stupid rank!” he barked back. “If I can defeat you, then I’ll get that rank! Just because you have a stupid elemental release means you’re automatically gold?” Before I could explain that it was because of me killing Taurus, he got up with his injured shoulder and attempted to attack me.

I sidestepped and knocked him back with my shaft as he rushed again. He ran again, faster this time, as he started slashing more and more. I dodged and parried, receiving only a few slashes as he finally sidestepped and aimed for my heart.

Suddenly Alice’s scythe blocked it. Alex looked alarmed and said, “Move out of the way Alice, please,” he looked desperate to kill me.

“No Alex, you won’t be killing him,” Alex looked astonished.

“To think that I actually liked you… Spin, Ferrum,” He had a second release! “You guys aren’t the I’ve shown this to… I got it a while back during my own training… They refused to let me be a 7, and told me to prove myself, and I tell you. I really freaking will,”

His scythe grew another copy on the back of its shaft. A chain sprouted in the middle of it as it started spinning. He swung the spinning blades at me as I blocked it with a wind blade. Suddenly, the blade shattered as I ducked at the last second, dodging the razor.

He swung it back as I jumped over it and grabbed the chain. I created a wind blade and shattered it, but it suddenly regenerated. “I can beat you! You don’t deserve that rank!” He swung it again as I tired to block it, but it swerved to the right and hit me square in the chest.

Alice ran up to him yelling at him to stop, but she got sliced as well. Her face was one of horror while Alex’s was one of hate

He reared it back up again as he shot it down one last time at my neck. Suddenly, it was blown away by a giant metal object. It was Chase, holding Rosae. He swung it at Alex as he pummeled into a wall. “Why are you here?” said Alex.

“I was here to supervise your first solo mission without a captain leading. Obviously, it didn’t turn out well,” He responded.

“SUPERVISING? YOU WERE SPYING US, STALKING US!” Alex yelled back as he shot Ferrum back at Chase. He swung Rosae and countered it as he pulled out shackles from his back pocket. He handcuffed Alex as we walked back. Alex shot me a dirty look as I questioned if I actually deserved anything.
