in the manga we recently found out that

the rinnegan is the most powerful stage of the sharingan

so how did nagato activate his from watching his parents die? or am i missing something?

You know, technically he may have had the rinnegan his whole life, we have never seen him with normal eyes.

Even if it is metaphorical, I think it might have something to do with that. Although his pain could have been so bad that he skipped the stages? Dunno.

i do believe that in some way madara and nagato are related, but not tobi other wise he would have just asked madara how he unlocked his rinnegan insted of stealing one

You don't really have to be related to the Uchiha.

BUT, since he's an Uzumaki, Uzumaki clan and Senju clan are distantly related and its possible for him to be eligible to use the Rinnegan.

i rekon that he must be related to madara, that would explain where madara went after the fight with the 1st and why no one knew where his body was :P

When tobi surgically removed it did he have to go through the stages? No. When a dojutsu eye has already been activated and is removed it can't deactivate ever again once implanted into someone, look at all of the eye transplants we have seen, they all fallow this rule.

^exception is Ao's Byakugan that he stole.

Lately I've been wondering the relation between the two also... The only thing that would make sense to me is that Madara did, indeed, give Nagato the Rinnegan surgically. And the only way I could think for this to be possible is if Nagato had been kidnapped at some point (possibly by Orochimaru) and given the eyes to bring Madara back. Heck, I even see a resemblence between Madara and Nagato just by looking at them.. I don't know if it's the hairstyle or what haha

I wasn't counting the byakugan because it is always white and the pupil doesn't change when activated (it looks like you just concentrate chakra to you're eyes or something).

NOT TRUE!!! Just rewatched Kakashi vs. Pain. after Pain leaves, you see the tamo in Kakashi's eyes, not the mangyeko. He tells Choji to get out of here.

At the end of the Kakashi vs. Deidara fight, Kakashi's sharingan reverts to tamos. In this case he is out of chakra it seams. However, in the beginning we cant quite see his eyes, but he shouts "Mangyeko," suggesting it's activation. That or it's exposition to let us know that has has the Mangyeko, rather than just showing us.

Ya like I said his sharingan doesn't turn off. He turns off his mangekyo before he dies, but his sharingan never gets canceled.

You changed the subject when you talked about surgically removing the eyes. It was your first post on this thread. The comment you were quoting was about parents and linage. Genetics. You were talking about the eyes going through stages. Which made no sense to what you were quoting. The thread had Nagato activating them himself. And would parents dying be enough pain for the eye that was always his, activating and skipping stages of the sharingan.


You through me off by changing the subject to given the eyes. and then deactivation. So I naturally thought you meant power usage and how you can't control that well. By example, if you aren't Uchia. It's always power on. Even what you quoted didn't suggest that person thought the eyes were activated by Madara, turned off totally, then back up with the Nagato
