BACKGROUND
Quote:
For hundreds of years the world enjoyed a time of relative peace. No longer needed, the guardians of the old world faded into legends, while the sinister monsters become footnotes in the bedtime stories of children. To say magic died would be inaccurate. It merely fell into a coma, waiting eagerly for the day when someone would rouse it from its slumber.

And come it did.

A creature, calling itself The Scion, revived the dark arts, breathing new life into the demons of creation. The happy bliss of ignorance could no longer blanket the masses as more lives were claimed by darkness. Fearing the scion, factions began to form, each with their own agenda. Some sought to protect the innocent; others saw the opportunity for personal gain. A group of mercenaries known as The Guild began recruiting all the talented youths they could get their hands on. The army turned to science for the answer, splicing DNA to create hybrid experiments.

Yet nothing seemed strong enough to curb the ever growing power of the scion. Tensions rose as a schism shook the foundations of the world. The Scion's quest for immortality was about to be achieved, bringing with it the iron grip of his rule. With old powers awakening a new world order was about to be established. He did not go unchallenged.

A group of lone heroes rose to meet him. Their valiant efforts succeed; they managed to put The Scion down, or ...did they?

The Story So Far

The superhero team known as Cypher was shocked to find out the enter western coast had disappeared. Shortly there after they were attacked by an unknown magic user. Though they fought bravely in the end they lost JC and were unable to stop the dark wizard. Using Vee as leverage he convinced Frost Burn to trade her life for the ring upon his finger. With his goal reached the wizard freed Vee only to open some kind of portal transporting everyone within a short distance to somewhere strange and unfamiliar. Upon arriving our heroes find themselves without their companions and rumors of the Scion swirl around them.


Frost Burn busies himself searching for answers and clues inside a mysterious tower. After several hours of research a young boy seeks him out and begs for his help. Unable to ignore his plea Frost Burn agrees and fallows the child deeper into this strange world.


Psi managed to find an injured MayDay shortly upon arrival. Needing first aid and rest Psi and MayDay journey to a nearby church where they encounter a young woman capable of healing wounds. It's there for the first time that Psi falls in love, vowing to make this nun to be his wife to be. While looking deeply into her eyes he's torn away from her pretty face by the fearful thoughts of May who takes off running. Psi fallows promising to return to his fair maiden before the game is over.


Devroux Alter wakes to the smell of smoke and the distant sound of battle. Curious he draws near to see a young woman under attack by a group of strange men. Fearing her life may be in danger Devroux attempts to aid her. Though he manages to cut down some of their forces, he makes a critical error resulting in a gun blast to the chest.

Kevin Voan had embarked upon a strange mission on behalf of the Guild. His assignment was to take out a strange girl. After locating his target he was surprised to find she was no mere human, and she happened to be accompanied by others. A battle ensued but before Voan could make his escape a blinding light appeared in the sky and he lost consciousness. When he awoke he found himself somewhere else in the city, unable to explain the last few hours of his life. He returned to his penthouse to find it in ruins and discover both his girlfriend and son have gone missing, prompting him to begin searching for them.


J, and escaped prisoner, has been wreaking havoc in the sewers below the city's surface. He's moved only by the thrill of battle and the smell of fresh blood. He's enjoyed his murderous rampage for sometime now only to suddenly wake up in the same dark cell that once held him captive. Again in chains, this dog hungers for freedom and blood once more. In his desolate cell he is visited by a strange man who speaks in vague riddles and seems amused by all that J says. The two make a bargain upon which J awakes once again in the sewers. Cleaning his wounds is a young girl who claims to be looking for her lost sisters.
*This is closed RPG, while I appreciate the interest in the game I can't let anymore players in, fear not, another game of equal caliber will fallow and all will be free to join, in the mean time please stop sending me PMs.

CHARACTERS/PLAYERS:

  • 10 Again: A result of 10 on any die is re-rolled in an attempt to achieve more successes. A further result of 10 on a re-rolled die is rolled yet again, over and over, until no more 10s are rolled.
  • action: A task that takes all of a character's time and attention. Storytelling measures instant actions (one to three seconds, taking place within a single turn) and extended actions, taking longer (duration determined by the Storyteller). Also, there are reflexive actions, which take no time and do not prevent a character from performing another action within a turn, and contested actions, in which two or more characters compete in a task or for a single goal.
  • Attribute: A character trait representing innate capabilities, Mental, Physical and Social. An Attribute is added to a Skill (or another Attribute in certain cases) to determine your basic dice pool for a task.
  • chance roll: Whenever modifiers reduce your dice pool to zero or fewer dice, you may make a chance roll on a single die. Unlike a normal dice roll, a chance roll succeeds only on a result of 10. Worse, a result of 1 causes a dramatic failure.
  • derangement: Characters whose Morality dots are lost through degeneration or who suffer horrible psychological trauma can acquire a derangement. Some derangements are classified as mild, meaning they hinder the character mainly by plaguing his conscience. Others are severe, often cases of clinical insanity. Derangements caused by degeneration can be healed by restoring lost Morality dots.
  • dice: The Storytelling System uses 10-sided dice to represent the element of chance. Dice are collected to form a character's dice pool for an action.
  • dice pool:The number of dice rolled to determine failure or success (and the degree of success) for a character's action. Dice pools are usually determined by adding an Attribute to a Skill, plus any relevant equipment and/or modifiers.
  • dramatic Critical failure: A result of 1 on a chance roll causes a dramaticcritical failure, a catastrophe worse than a normal failure. The character's gun might jam or he might wind up shooting a friend by accident. The Storyteller determines and describes the result.
  • equipment: Characters can improve their chances of succeeding in a task by using the right equipment. This benefit is represented by modifiers to the dice pool, depending on the equipment used and its quality.
  • exceptional success: Whenever five or more* successes are rolled, the character achieves an exceptional success. This achievement sometimes provides an extra perk over and above the effect of having multiple successes. For example, a character who gains five successes on a fast-talk roll might allay the target *that figure may vary at the GM's whim.
  • failure: A dice roll that yields no successes is a failure the character does not succeed at his task.
  • Health: An advantage trait, determined by adding Stamina + Size. Health is measured in dots and points.
  • Initiative: An advantage trait representing the character's ability to respond to sudden surprise, determined by adding Dexterity + Composure. A character's Initiative helps him get a high standing in the Initiative roster.
  • Initiative roster: The list that determines when each character can perform an action within a turn. For each character who is not surprised, a player rolls a die and adds his character's Initiative to the result. Whoever gets the highest number acts first, followed by the character with the next highest, and so on until everyone who can has acted that turn. Initiative is usually rolled once per encounter, but the Storyteller can decide to re-roll it each turn.
  • Merit: A character trait representing enhancements or elements of a character's background, such as his allies or influence. Merits are measured in dots, but are not always used to determine dice pools. Instead, they represent increasing degrees of quality or quantity concerning their subject.
  • modifiers: Dice pools are often modified by a number of factors, from bonuses (adding dice) for equipment or ideal conditions to penalties (subtracting dice) for poor conditions.
  • Morality: An advantage trait representing a character's moral, ethical and even psychological standing and well being. Morality is measured in dots, which can be lost to degeneration by performing unethical or criminal acts.
  • reflexive action: An instinctual task that takes no appreciable time, such as reacting to surprise or noticing something out of the corner of your eye. Performing a reflexive action does not prevent a character from performing another action within a turn.
  • Resistance: Characters can resist others' attempts to socially sway them, physically grapple them or even mentally dominate them. Whenever applying such resistance requires a character's full attention, it is performed as a contested action, but more often it is a reflexive action, allowing the target to also perform an action that turn.
  • scene: A division of time based on drama, such as the end of one plot point and the beginning of another. Whenever a character leaves a location where a dramatic event has occurred, or when a combat has ended, the current scene usually ends and the next one begins.
  • Skill: A character trait representing learned ability or knowledge. Added to an Attribute to determine a character's basic dice pool for a task.
  • Specialty: An area of Skill expertise in which a character excels. Whenever a Specialty applies to a character's task, one die is added to his player's dice pool. There's no limit to the number of Specialties that you can assign to a single Skill.

  • aggravated (damage): A damage point that inflicts a grievous or supernatural wound. Aggravated wounds normally heal at a rate of one point per week.
  • bashing (damage): A damage point that inflicts a blunt or bruising wound, such as from a fist or a baseball bat. Bashing wounds normally heal at a rate of one point per 15 minutes.
  • close combat: Attacks that involve hand-to-hand or weapon fighting. Such attacks use the Strength Attribute for their dice pools. Characters gain their Defense against close-combat attacks.
  • contested action: Two or more characters compete in a task or for a single goal. The one who gets the most successes wins. Contested actions can be instant or extended actions.
  • lethal (damage): A damage point that inflicts a sharp, slashing or piercing wound, such as from a sword or bullet. Lethal wounds normally heal at a rate of one point per two days.
  • ranged combat: An attack that sends a projectile of some sort at a target, whether it's a bullet from a gun or a knife from a hand. Such attacks use the Dexterity Attribute for their dice pools. Characters' Defense cannot normally be used against firearm attacks, although targets can penalize an opponent's accuracy by going prone or taking cover.

RANDOM HINTS AND ADVICE
  • Lone- Watch yourself dude. There is a classic trap in this game that I put in just for you. (no it's not the other trap you fell into on the Katsumi mission, something totally different.) Changed my mind, don't feel like doing this anymore. Have a better idea.
  • One of you walked right into a trap before this game even started.
  • Word of advice, if I give you anything in the game (key word GIVE which implies you didn't earn it) it's only because I'm planning on taking it away.
  • Srsly Nick, J-sun, same person.
  • J-Sun... I have a trap with your name on it.
  • Dev and Lone... I might have to summon the Deadwolf just for you.
  • Yes Red, that's exactly what's happening.
  • I'm screwing J-sun over for the sake of plot but I think it'll be worth it without any real negative consequences... for J-sun, Nick ehh /shrug
  • I haven't really done any real traps. If I were a character I bet my vice would be sloth.
  • I think Red actually knows what's going on. Does anyone else have a theory?
  • The NPCs aren't really color coded, I just did them randomly, but I noticed that all the ones in blue coincidentally are ones that J-sun has encountered.
  • You know, I'm not very subtle, I just don't think anyone gets my references. When the game is over remind me to tell you about the triplets, their entire concept was a joke.
  • The names on the NPC list that are crossed out are officially confirmed dead. So yes, Frost Burn's apprentice Mallen is dead. Sorry Red.
  • Still can't believe you killed the Archive.
  • I'm currently trying to lead Nick into a trap called: The Honey Pot.
  • Kreegah's entered the game.
  • And no Nick, you didn't call it.
