Zoro in the Viz translation of One Piece

Why are they still calling him Zolo instead of Zoro? I just read my newest SJ yesterday, and he's still referred to as Zolo... You'd think since One Piece hasn't been dubbed by 4Kids since 2007 they would have changed it to Zoro by now.

That's strange, especially since Oda himself said that Zoro is supposed to be Zoro.

The translators might've not heard that yet and just continue with their current translation. After all, "R"s in Japanese can be used to make an "L" sound when translated.

Because they've been calling him Zolo since volume 1 and it would possibly confuse readers to change all of a sudden. I say Zolo anyways.

It's like how Tetsusaiga is really spelt Tessaiga. or Ishbal is Ishval now. They do one thing then change it. But obviously it would confuse the younger (if there are any) readers.

I don't think it matters either. Saying it doesn't matter does have a point to it. The point that it does not matters.

I was just looking for a simple explanation to why Zoro has two different names between the anime and manga, but it doesn't look as if I am going to get that. Instead some people would rather post "It doesn't matter." rather than actually providing me with a reasonable answer.

Originally it was Zoro in the manga. Then the 4Kids dub came along and Viz changed it to Zolo and reprinted the graphic novels to reflect that while continuing to call him Zolo from then on in Shonen Jump and future graphic novels.

They had the opportunity to finally change it back when they started the speed up but they didn't and now it would seem they never will change it. At least not until they rerelease the series in a different kind of book like they did with the Viz Big line. But even then they probably wont bother to change it.

It's not that big of a deal but it does irk me a bit. I'm glad I kept my first four volumes in which Zoro is still called Zoro. They might be worth more some day.

It's a redundant question now anyway, as of recently Viz have changed back to Zoro to fit with the FUNImation dub of the anime, which used Zolo for the little Garden arc to prevent confusion as they continued on the 4KIDS airing of the arc, now that's over. Since then they both use Zoro.

There, you have an answer. Now don't be so goddamn rude and instead do some research to find the answer. Google works miracles if you have 5 minutes.

I'm not trying to be rude. Sorry if that's what I'm coming off as, but it just gets annoying when people don't say anything helpful to me on a thread I made primarily for that purpose. @bold, Nope. Like I said in the first post, I read the most recent chapters of OP in SJ and they still call him Zolo. Thus why I made this thread. And about the google thing, I searched my question and I found my own thread. lawl.

I know that, I said some people didn't. I don't consider "It doesn't matter." an answer. I can understand if you don't think it matters, but if you don't even give a crap about it to begin with, I don't really see a reason to post an un-useful answer on a question thread.

the discussion is going to be about whether we like Zoro or Zolo
unless of course the thread is locked. So saying "it doesn't matter"

I guess your right. I'll admit I've been a bit high-strung as of lately. But wait a second, we're you two saying my question didn't matter, or that Zoro's name change didn't matter? If the latter, then that's a whole different thing. I could care less about the change itself, I was just curious why the change still isn't corrected. (Which, yes, I know has been answered before I even made the thread. I knew about the translation problems that come with L's and R's, I was wondering why Viz didn't correct it by now.)

Either way, I read that Viz did change Zolo to Zoro in the 2nd volume of 2011 of the US release. Whether that's still in effect I have no idea.

Seeing as it was mainly changed in order to avoid confusion and possible copyright issues with "Zorro" and changed to outline with 4KIDS at the time. I know FUNI are pushing for a rename as far as I'm aware, from Viz manga wise - if it hasn't already happened.

Living outside the US though, my Information is limited, and where I found that they had changed it back was from http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Roronoa_Zoro/Misc. Which is as about as accurate One Piece info as you can find without actually reading the chapters.
