Whether or not you like his music, he's transcended the music industry.

He's obviously a quite gifted artist and business man to achieve this much.

As for his record company, they're pretty good in recruiting and track making as he got both Drake and Nikki Minaj, both now super stars themselves. From absolutely no where.

I agree to a certain extent. His music is just mediocre at best. There's nothing original about rapping about guns, weed, and girls. He's not particularly impressive, and he uses too many metaphors and similes to the point of overkill. He's your average, run of the mill dirty south rapper and he's heralded as one of the best rappers in the game now. I can respect him as a business man though. He signed Drake and Nicki Minaj. They're both overrated and Nicki is garbage, but he's getting rich.

He's highly overrated and Young Money is unoriginal and nothing special. He did find Tyga, who is pretty good. I expect Tyga to become the next Drake though.

There's no reason why Tyler the Creator and Odd Future should be lesser known. They each have unique, and impressive flows and styles. They tell stories with music (ie. Tyler the Creator- Bastard) unlike Young Money, who just raps about self-representation.(ie. Young Money- Bed Rock) What really makes Young Money any greater than other rappers who rap about being successful with women, and having a lot of money?

So, yeah... he's basically the Nickelback of rap. He's not as horrible as people say he is, but if he's that famous, he should be a lot better at rapping.

Lil Wayne is nothing compared to most underground artists. Lil Wayne has simple punchlines, simple subject matter, simple similies and metaphors. Nothing about his work is complex except his early stuff from 10 years ago. How famous he is has nothing to do with his skill level (Ex: Soulja Boy, Rosco Dash). Drake is better, yet he's not all that good himself. The whole Young Money crew is basically joke.

The media hyped up Wayne and made him to be what he his today, like the media does to most mainstream rappers. Very few mainstream rappers are mainstream because of their skills.

Excluding Eminem.

To be honest, rappers are just grown men writing nursery rhymes and producing sounds.

The fact you mentioned skill is a joke.

They sound good, but they're not talented.

A rapper could spit words all day, without a good beat or quality producing, they aren't going anywhere.

Eminem is the best because he gets high on drugs, then writes things down. And when he's sober, he uses what he's learned from Dr. Dre, which is producing, and makes a good sound. Blends them together, makes a flashy video, and gets millions.

I listen to both of them, I love them both. But you can't say someone "sucks" because being a rapper doesn't make you talented to begin with.

Tha Carter 4 was filled with Simple punchlines about the same thing. Wayne reached his peak and can no longer go on. The only reason why his album sell was because of his name. If people would have actually looked at the reviews and listen then the album would have disappointing numbers. There is really nothing else he can do to originate himself from the other rappers. He tried the outside rap genre with an Rock Album and look what happen. Compare him to the 2 kings of hip-hop right now Wayne looks like a rookie. I'm talking about Jay-Z & Kanye.

He was at a stand still after Thank Me Later. It was like he was doing what Wayne & others were doing. His lyrics was dumb down, his flow was tired, and he was repeating himself. Now that was completely crushed when his new album take care came out just some days ago. He finally got back to his So Far Gone state of mind again and he completely killed it. If anything YM should be behind Drake than Wayne. The student surpassed the teacher long ago.

Wayne and most of mainstream hip hop is garbage. Some of the instrumentals are chill and a few songs out there are actually decent but for the most part it's simple minded garbage.

Jedi Mind Tricks, Rhyme Asylum, Unusual Suspects, Lowkey, Immortal Tech, Diabolic Grieves, Atmosphere, Sadistik > all of mainstream IMO.
