Gedo Mazo. The statue that contains the first seven of the nine Bijuu. But there are questions surrounding it...
-Where did it come from?
-Is it the Juubi's body?
-What happens when it has all nine Bijuu? (Aside from Madara's plan)
I was talking with someone and he raised the point that it looks like it was made from wood, which is a valid point. Supposing Madara made it, or maybe infused wood with the Juubi's body or something?
What do you guys think?

Actually now that you mention it, it's body does kind of look like the Juubi. Only thing is that the Juubi only had the one eye and the Gedo Mazo has the nine.

As for where it came from, who knows? Nagato summoned it when they were tricked and ambushed by Danzo and Hanzo, and even though Madara says he gave Nagato the Rinnegan, it's hard to believe or not believe him, so he could or could not be behind the statue.

I honestly think that it dates back to the original Rikudo Sennin.

There are a number of people who could possibly have created it, but the list of major suspects from most likely to least goes as follows:
- Madara Uchiha
- The Sage of the Six Paths
- Hashirama Senju

I have my reasoning for each. It isn't the Ten-Tails' body. When the Sage divided the Ten-Tails chakra up into the nine Tailed Beasts he sent the Ten-Tails' body into the sky using Chibaku Tensei where it now makes up the moon.

Once it has the power of the nine Tailed Beasts, however, it may become the new Ten-Tails, but that's a matter of how Madara intends to revive it. The Tailed Beasts are, as they have been described by Karin and many others, masses of chakra, and it goes without saying that chakra needs a body. Madara requires the original body of the Ten-Tails to remain the moon for his plan to work, so it's most likely that when he revives the Ten-Tails using its chakra, he'll use the Gedo Mazo to provide the Ten-Tails' chakra with a body. The Gedo Mazo makes for a perfect vessel anyways since it doesn't already have a consciousness.

Interesting! i have been looking to release a theory of Gedo Mazo soon but it seems that you took the step first. ...

it's hard to say exactly what it might be. For me, i think that Madara is simply reversing the process the Sage of the Six Paths used to distribute the chakra of the 10-tails. If you think about it:

The original Juubi had the number 10 representing it's tail. It was Rikoudo's idea to split it into 9. So if we see a statue with 9 eyes as a vessel for collecting the nine tailed beast, is it then a coincident? of course not.

Gedo Mazo is possibly the creature created by Rikoudo himself to transfer the bijuu's chakra. Then within it he creates 9 interior vessels to split up the chakra, then by using Izanagi he transfers the 9 chakras into tailed beast. Of cause the manga hasn't gone into details as to how rikoudo split the chakra...

what we saw: 9 chakra's emanating from the sennin in spiral was a mere representation.


EDIT: also consider the fact that Kuubi has to be sealed last otherwise the whole process will go Kaboom! If this is a reverse process, then indeed Rikoudo created the Kuubi first correct?...you know why?

@Nick: yeah, it's hard to tell cause Madara lies like hell lol. I think perhaps, if it wasn't crafted by the Sage, then perhaps a wood release user before Hashirama made it? I dunno. It can't have magically appeared like a wild Entei or something...
@D330: Yeah, it does seem likely that Madara made it, in a way. He had the first's cells, afterall... So if it is wooden, it might have been him. But as for the conscienceness thing, I'm thinking that it might have one... It's because Madara commanded it, and it screamed... Not much I know, but why would he make it scream?
@Kalmeast: I'm wondering if the order has anymore significance than the fact that Naruto has the Kyuubi XD

hmmmm.......wasn't the Juubi's original body enclosed by the moon? I do believe the statue may become the Juubi's new body (with a change in form of course).

Yeah, that's the general opinion, I guess. With the whole Gedo Mazo being the Juubi's body I meant that maybe it had been summonded... I dunno. I still doubt it though.

Gedo Mazo means Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
Sage of Six Paths.Outer Path.Most likely a connection to the Sage.
Perhaps a secret Weapon of his?

In my opinion it is a sort of Body Replacement that Madara uses to gather the Juubi Chakra so that he can later transfer it to the Juubi.


As said I am certain it was a weapon from the Sage.
Just like his Treasures.


And I doubt it is Wood.Though since it's Fiction who knows.
I mean Wood withstanding such forceful attacks from the Akimichis?
I rather say it's Stone.

Your logic makes sense but you can't really ignore the fact that it does indeed look like wood. Maybe it's a product of Wood Style from the RS?.....who knows.

Personally I don't see how it looks like Wood.
But I guess that depends on the viewer.

I doubt it is Wood Style.
If my assumption is correct in Gedo Mazo being a weapon of the Sage then it's more likely Yin-Yang.

The Sage used the combination of the 2 from the Juubi's Chakra to create the Bijuu.

If not that there is also the possibility that Gedo Mazo was a safety measure created by Rikodou for the Future incase the Bijuu go outta control.

Still Gedo Mazo actually being Juubi is far from impossible either.

He defeated the Ten-Tails and sealed it inside himself to save the world (as far as we know) and divided its chakra so that it wouldn't threaten the world any longer. He wouldn't create something that would give mankind a way to revive such an evil being. Madara, on the other hand, would, and has been able to use Izanagi for a very long time.

hmm...that's a good deduction...i guess i'd have to reconsider...before that, If madara created it, how come Nagato get's his hands on it during his summon against Hanzou.

if the sage is able to hide Juubi's body in the moon, why not be able to hide Gedo, cus unlike other summons that came with a poof, Gedo emerged from the earth. And so far, only those with Rinnegan have power over it?
