PM Question (blank messages)

This isn't really a serious problem I need solved it's just something I've always been curious about because I'm pretty sure it's happened to everyone at some point.

Why is it randomly when PMing anothe user back and forth every now and then you'll send a message that appears to be totally blank? Or visa versa, you'll get a message from another user that appears to have no message from them?

You guys know what i'm talking about right?

Maybe they submitted the messages before typing the message accidentally or they used a special character at the beginning of the message.

Either the person hit the reply button on accident, or accidentally put their reply inside of a different quote because they didn't scroll down all the way in the box.

Yeah, it's happened to me before.

Sometimes I find the reply a few quotes back among the other message.

Like it'll be ~

Blank Message

Then other times, there is just nothing there at all.

Sometimes people double click. Mostly happens with mobile devices.

Why would that send a blank message though? If that were the case it should send two messages, the first and then a second one.

I know this has happened with me and you, where i've typed something out, sent it to you, and then you've written back saying there was nothing my message.

I'm NOT talking about when you send me like 15 of the same message, I already get and fully understand why that one happens

Nope, sometimes it does that. It just goes blank. And I send like 15 blank ones.

Anyway, it's not a problem that we can really fix. It just happens. Which sucks.

I know what you mean, however it hasn't happened to me in a LONG time. Whenever I used to PM TTGG a LONG while back, there'd be lots of times where my messages to her were just blank. She said, "The forum ate them."

YES! Exactly!

And it's not something that does happen often, I was just curious if there was a reason it happened or if it was just... I dunno a forum glitch or something.

On these blank messages, what date does it show when it was sent?? If it's 01-01-1970, then it's a known vBulletin bug and you can just delete them.

Make sure you check next time, many vBulletin big boards become affected with this, nobody knows why the database decides to send random members useless PM's that don't exist.

They're not random if they're in a current PM exchange.

This has actually been happening to me since the beginning of the site change, I just assumed it was users being stupid. Every once in a while it was them typing at the top of the previous quoted PM, or at times deciding their new message was to be randomly hidden within the old string of quoted conversations, but many a time it's just silence embodied.

I don't know if I feel better or worse knowing it's not limited to me

. Either the users are smarter than I thought, or there's an inherent bug either in the site or the browsers accessing it that I'm likely not gonna be able to fix.

I'm just gonna pretend I didn't see this thread

LOL it's cool. I don't think it's a big enough problem to fix in the first place.

Nice to know i'm not totally crazy yet though. Thanks, you can probably lock this now.
