Electoral college actually, and they vary state by state. In some states the popular vote actually binds them. Sadly this is only true in 6 (to my knowlege) states.

That's why we are a democratic republic. We elect people (state and city level) who elect people (the electoral college) who elect the president.

Just throwing it out there the electoral vote and electoral college is a load of bull .

I stick to monarchy or a mix of monarchy with the sense of some democracy, a lot of socialism and some communism. make a new type of government.

I am tired of all the cliches about "we the people" and "for the people" and "land of the free". Lets make a government that WORKS and does what it is suppose to do when the people need it.

Empty promises. The politicians best and worst weapon. We believe what they say because they mean well but sadly they cannot pull through with their promises so they let us down. The thing a politician should never do is make promises. If i ever ran for mayor or police chief, i would not go about saying "i will make this city glow with all the jobs that i will be bringing" or "I will lower crime 20% in a year, guaranteed". I would simply say "Trust me, believe in me, i can make things better. How much better? I dont know, but i will make them better. For all of you? maybe not. But for the majority of this town I will. I am not talking race majority, but population majority. I cant make it better for all of you, but i will try my best to do so. I will promise you this, I WILL NOT MAKE IT WORSE. One thing you will always get from me is honesty. Whether the truth will hurt or help my chances of reelection you will get the truth." I will vote for someone that lowered themselves to MY level. I am tired of stuck up politicians.

i went on and on and on babbling. lol.

Yes, call me idealist, but i actually still believe in the spirit and beliefs that spawned our revolution and saw this country united after 9/11. (you know, at first i was pro war against terror, then when i found out we were going to war against the WRONG country i was pissed, then when i realized that we went to war for OIL!! I was ashamed to be an american.)

There are flaws in our system, yes, of course. it is impossible to create the truly perfect form of government, because no matter what or how hard you try, at the end of the day someone is going to end up getting screwed. That's just the way life works, it's simply impossible to satisfy everyone. (true, but when you are screwing over the MAJORITY then that is a problem.)

So it is the nature of man to strive towards what he believes is morally "right", so that he might make up for the shortcoming of being unable to create perfection. That's what our government is. (our government and the people that chose it are going into power for their own selfish reasons. Money and power that is all they want and WE gave it to them because of those FALSE promises (not empty promises that is a different thing)

It is founded on the belief of morality and the genuine effort to create such things as "equality" and "justice" in this world. Our government is the grandest conception of mankind--the true effort of our every will to create a land of...well, opportunity. a land of freedom. A land people are proud to call their own.(oh really? it was founded on that. Well let me tell you something, this country was founded over TAXATION without REPRESENTATION, something that is happening right now. Not with taxation, but with the part of representation. our elected leaders (senators and house of representatives) are not representing what we want them to, they are doing as they please. Land of freedom and opportunity.... well until 1865 people were allowed to have slaves (that is almost 100 years of slavery in the US) and well into the 1900s minorities were and STILL ARE mistreated here in the LAND OF THE FREE. Opportunity for what? We get mad at other people coming to our country but we dont realize that WE sold the great idea of AMERICA THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY! We took a lot of good people from other countries to help us make the US, win wars and get settle economically and now we get mad cause they are coming over. blame the dumbasses that made a huge billboard the biggest one ever and put that in there.)

and it is only unfortunate that we cannot be a proud people. It is unfortunate that we allow the actions of few corrupt and unlawful men to cloud the beautiful dream and image of this country. No matter how grand the society, how peaceful the utopia, there will always be crime and murderers. And there will always be the corrupt.(FEWWWWWWW!!!! wow. when the "few" is the leaders then that is ALL of them. um it is called Utopia for a reason there is no murders or violence, i am reasonable, that will never happen. I, WE, want something better for all of us not a perfect society.)

That should not be allowed to take away from what is, in truth, a very grand design. (communism is the best design out there. how is that going?)

In fact, the design is crafted so that it can bear the weight of all that evil. Our government is built to accommodate the failings of man. A monarchy is not. (Accommodate the failings of man is what got us to this shitty position we are in. I am all pro helping the needy not the lazy. Our government helps out the lazy not the needy. a monarchy would help out the needy not the lazy. Dont say "no they would not" trust me you are thinking of medieval monarchy, no i am speaking of a brand new way of monarchs. the ones that actually would see what happens with their kingdoms and try to fix things their own way and maybe help out a little)

With our current setup, one can have that horrible leader (though there are the means to prevent that from happening, however ineffective they may have become today) without the country falling to ruin. Because of our checks and balances, impeachment, and the desire for reelection, no one man can truly leave even an unseemly dent upon our country's fair surface. (How many great presidents have we had that could have been reelected into office for more than 2 terms? lincoln, died. Teddy, lost in 1912 (i think) and then his son died and he was gone. Roosevelt, died. The one that i wished would have done his 8 years was Kennedy and the government killed him. I wont talk about the founding fathers that were presidents, i wasnt there nor i understand what they did. my point is that we have not gotten any real long term leaders nor really good ones either. 44 presidents and i can count the good ones in with my hands. Not because they are bad, but because they have to do so much with so little time. 8 years it is not enough to change something. Not with today's restrictions. 12 years, that is how long Alexander the Great took to conquer the known world, similar length but one difference, NO RESTRICTIONS. which this government has a lot of.)

With a monarchy, however, so much power being singularly in the hands of one man often leads to the downfall and destruction of once powerful nations, especially once a series of bad rulers come to the throne. And that is the trap of monarchy: one is leaving the selection of rulers completely up to fate, chance, and genes. By passing rule through heredity, and making it all but impossible to dethrone a king without bloodshed, one is just asking for trouble. (Egypt lasted for thousands of years, our country is a young country, a powerful one, but we are on downfall. We grew up too quick and are dying too quick, the US.)

And you need glasses. I didnt say teddy died on 1912, i said he LOST in 1912, not that he died. I think you need to go and search a dictionary for the word LOST. More than one meaning lady.)

I have stated several times in the past that I am slightly slow and have a bad memory. However, you did say "except not against our own people", which to me implies you meant people from outside our country. In which case, it would not be a civil war at all.

I am white, but I care very much about minorities. Shut up. You don't know me. Besides, it may have started as a land of the free for the white, but now it's free for a lot more people. It has room for improvement, but to me it seems more likely to improve under a democracy than a monarchy.

Okay, momentary lapse in memory. Those happen.

I know, but if we are talking in a thread about AMERICAN KINGS, then you should imply that i was talking about our own people.

Hey no shut up here lol. Look there are less racist people now than 50 years ago, and having a non racist king is not that hard to do. Also if the racist extremist KKK, black panthers and the extreme hispanics dont want a white/black/brown king then we could always exterminate them. I am sooooo pro getting rid of "waste".

I try not to tell people to shut up too often, but I can tell you are someone who doesn't know when not to say something. I may be white, but I'm still a potential target of the KKK, by the way. It's all because of my religion. Or lack there of.

And that's why I enjoy America.

"I hate black people they smell" is not a keep-your-mouth-shut comment, it's a don't-be-such-an-idiotic-racist comment.

Kira is from Death Note.

She doesn't hate minorities, and yes this did start out as a free country fro only White males, but now it isn't. Now it's a free country for everyone. (Though, as lou!e would attest, it is not as free for Gay people.)

You enjoy america now. It has become a lot better than what it was 50 years ago. Ask anyone 60 plus that is not your race how good America was back when they were 10.

kid, dont act like a "hero wannabe", we are having a mature discussion.

There is a reason i said "keep your mouth shut man" comment. Jesus people need to learn to understand what they read not just go through it like a maniac and make a judgement without understanding it.

I dont watch deathnote hence why i asked.

I dont know vio and you dont know me either. If you were to pay attention to the why i said that maybe you would understand a little bit.

BTW gay people are not a race, they are choices. I am not against gay people or bi people but they are not a race. Tho if they do get rights like other minorities then cool, but they should not be taken priority over other more important stuff.

I heard you rant, or try to, and not in one of your "paragraphs" you made sense. What do you think of the King of America topic, "hero"?

I've been using red since the day I joined. I tried other colors that day, but red is the one that stuck, and weeks after I decided to keep it, I noticed people other than me and Sage of Six Paths using colored text. So nya!

XD Sorry, I just don't see my post color changing anytime soon.

Alfred is a Hetalia character. Alfred is his human name, but he's normally called America.
