Default Contentment, good or bad?

Simply put, is having everything you want and need a good thing or a bad thing? Being completely satisfied with how your life is.

If you are not content with life then you have things you want/desire, but if you are then you no longer have any real goals to achieve.

So which is better?

Someone once said: I wish for all your dreams to come true, save for one. Who here understands?

I guess that would ultimately come down to whether or not you are the kind of person who needs goals. I am not the kind that does and didn't miss those goals during the brief time in my life when I was truly content. I no longer am, but I still have no real goals so for me the two are not really directly related.

As for the statement that without goals you have nothing to work for, this is true as far as it goes, but that doesn't mean you have nothing you can do.

I understand what you mean. You can have all the money in the world, but still be unhappy. There's a possible contentment in life, I have no doubt.

I have met people. People truly and 100% happy with their lives. They took many chances and defied alot of people to get to where they are, but most of all, they stuck to their heart and acheived what they desired.

They never settled on something that didn't make them truly happy. They were divorced twice actually, for that very reason. But it takes time.

Can all people handle complete contentment? No.

contentment. i think that's what every human is wishing and working for. but it is also human nature to not be contented and ask for more. i think trying to achieve contentment is one of the primary reason of why we are living. we live and fight to be contented/satisfied. there are, how should i say it, little contentments on little things but to be completely contented is something hard to achieve.
as for the statement, maybe he wished for contentment not to come as it will kill him. reason for living will be gone after one is contented in life. its like you have proven and experienced everything you needed to.

For me, it depends on the particular area of my life - I tend to view contentment as existing in pockets, rather than an overarching feeling/state. In some things I want to be contented (have enough food, good shelter, health care, etc) and in others (learning, traveling and discovering new places, etc) I never want to stop questing for that contentment because the fun is in the exploration. I never want to feel like I have done it all, or seen it all. I never want to feel like I know it all either.

This is interesting, because in the past, I never thought of contentment this way. I always thought of it as not neccesarily having everything you want, but simply being happy/grateful for everything you do. So...contentment is just a state of mind that people should aim for. And if things get better, great! If they don't...

As the song goes, *starts singing* Don't worry, be happy.

Being content means that you don't have to work anymore. I don't like that, thought!
