Um, Try clicking the username and click add to contacts
if that doesnt work then i got nothin

When you add them as contacts, you have to select whether or not to add them as friends as well.

I go to people's pages and the "befriend -name-" button isn't there.

Try clicking on someone's username in a post, then hit 'add to contacts.' On the next page, hit the check box for requesting them as a friend as well. Then hit ok/send.
