I almost died in a car crash twice. The first time, I was about 9 years old and I was coming home. I was racing my brother to the door, (I was with my older brother at the time) and we were on the other side of the sidewalk. I went first, then there was this huge crashing noise. I just managed to get in the door before the car ran into the wall behind me...

And the second time, I was 11 and I was just running through the streets when there were still green lights. There weren't that many cars anyway.

So.. if a crazed serial killer attacks you and kills you slowly by ripping you limb from limb, you won't be afraid? :/

Like I said, I'm not afraid of death itself, but the pain and suffering that may come wiht the process of dying.

I'm not afraid of other people's deaths either. I'll be sad, i'll probably cry, but not necessarliy afraid.

Kinda hard for me lately though as my grandma who i've been so close to throughout my entire life has been diagnosed with dementia..We're already starting to lose her before she's actually lost

If a serial killer started to do that, I would have blacked out by then, either I would be ripping him limb from limb, or he would be me.

Either way, I would do the same thing to him, it's all fair.

Acceptance is key to making yourself feel better about this. I agree with Jakropha on that, you don't know how or when you will die but just accept you will and live your life to your full potential. I have had many near death experiences but that doesn't scare me. I am not scared of death I just see it as the cycle of life and live on with it.

@Uchiha Sora: I know how you feel my grandad has just been diagnosed with alzheimers, and it is tougher to just see him their as he doesn't recognise me.

Seriously though

I don't like pain and any death that isn't instant will have pain
and that's scary. But instant death is violent and sudden
and that's scary too. I guess I like to live a little first before I die.

But I think torture would be worse.

If there's anything good about a painful death it is that it ends.

I only say this because of what I experienced.

On my first deployment in 2005, we were on a convoy and I was a Gunner (the guy that sits in the turret) and we were driving down the road, nice a quite, which is never good, but you welcome it. My truck was the thrid truck in the convoy and then an IED went off and blew up the first truck, we came to a dead stop, as soon as the IED went off we started to recieve small arms fire, I could see where it was coming from and the bullets were hitting the guard around the turret, but I didn't fire back, I just froze, it took my NCO at the time to hit my leg and yell at me to return fire to snap me back into reality, but at that moment I knew I was scared to death of dying.

thats just when I realized I was scared of death.

And Oku, I would know, because I have accomplished ridding my entire soul of fear, fear of death, fear of failure. I have matured spiritually in a way I cannot explain.

If given the opportunity, I would do so, without hesitation, as my only inner function left at the point of blackout, would be to kill.

Like I said, I don't know what kinda life you lived, you might have had such a hard life when you had the chance to mature spiritually. I looked at your profile and it says your 17, and just because im 27 im not stating in anyway what so ever that I know more then you or anything, so please keep that in mind. But I just have a hard time believing that a 17 year old has ever been put in a spot where they have had the chance to spiritually mature. But I will say again what I have said over and over again, I don't know your life.

I have seen men older then me, been in more combat then me still freeze when those shots hit near you, fly by your head. In my 3 deployments I have been in combat 12 times, 3 of those times my life was in actual danger, the others were just them shoting blindly (they can't aim even when aiming lol)

Can I ask you a question? Have you ever been in a true Fight or Flight moment, im not talking the bully at school picks on you kinda thing, I mean to the moment where you had to make a choice of living or dying, fighting or running. if you read my story I posted my first reaction was flight, even though I froze, I ran away in my mind lol, it took someone to bring me back to fight mode.

My own death terrifies me. Not the actual part about dying, but I just don't want it to be too soon. I guess the scary part for me is dying without having done everything I wanted to do. I think this fear comes from a near death experience of mine when I was much younger.

But when I care for someone, I would gladly give my life for them, and I'd do it with a smile. Because I'd rather die gloriously saving someone I love deeply than stand and watch them perish.
