No, I do not know for certain, but I do know many people wanted the same thing as him.

Again, true. It works both ways. IMO it would be ridiculous to think that any great ideas/inventions/movements can be thought of by only one person. Are you saying it's not possible for someone OTHER than Carter inventing Peanut Butter?

I'm neutral on the notion of him being the greatest American of all time, but I certainly don't think robber barons like J.P. Morgan or Rockefeller should be put on that list, regardless of their charity contributions.

EDIT: I was also gonna point out the things @ShikamaruNara did but I wanted to be more informed before I presented them. From my limited knowledge I think those two men also helped open Pandora's Box in regards to entrepreneurship which has led to some of the poor business practices of today.

Does their negative actions really matter in the scheme of greatness of impact in America? I mean, obviously I'm not necessarily saying they were GOOD people, but their actions were detrimental to the progress of American society in the post-Reconstruction industrial age. Without Morgan, America would have been stuck in a huge deficit for only God knows how long, and same goes for the Standard Oil Company, despite its subsequent trust issues.
