What anime to watch?

I watched Death Note and Monster. What else would you suggest?

I am looking for Anime that are similar.

When I say similar, I don't mean:

-Naruto
-Code Geass
-Mirai Nikki
-Hyouka (It is in a way but almost each episode has its own story)
-Stein's Gate
-Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
-...

And other similar Anime.

And preferably without science fiction set in distant future!!!

I am open for mostly everything else!!!

Well, I am not really looking for creepy. If it is creepy, I don't mind. But it is not what I search for. I am looking for something that is more about thinking, taking actions which bring you to your goal. Anime where protagonist uses his intelligence and other skills to succeed!!!

I've answered like two of these kinds of threads already. But I suppose I could answer one more

Check out Blood+ or Wolf's Rain (this one is set in a distant future but it doesn't involve androids, robots and that stuff). It's mainly about wolves who can turn into human shape and are looking for a place called "Paradise" where all wolves have to go before earth ends. It has a good amount of action, the art is super and the environment is pretty sentimental.

What about Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle?

The protagonist is this intelligent puzzle solver who has to solve a series of nearly impossible puzzles to stay alive. I only saw the first episode, but it may be what you're looking for

Sounds like you want something with mystery/Physcological in it. And a smart protagonist/characters.
Umineko- The anime leaves a cliffhanger on the 4th game, so I recommend checking out the VN too.

Detective conan
Gankutsuou- Art style takes time getting use to.
Shangri-La- She will break down the walls of paradise. With the help of a boomerang.

TWGOK(The world god only knows)
Serial Experiments Lain- the furthest away from what you're looking for, but it's Dementia, Mystery, Drama, Sci-Fi, Supernatural, Psychological. I would definitely recommend watching this one. It's kinda old, but there's a high resolution version that makes it look even better.
