My bad, turns out that statement is off-canon (it doesn't sound logical anyway since Sasori's speciality is puppet mastery whilst Gaara is like "the ultimate master of sand" or something like that). Nice pic though, that's how I'm going to picture you from now on :P

Spoiler:

Dediara can always go underground before Sasori attacks. From there Dediara can prep and use bombs from below. Sasori would have a hard time fighting a foe underground. Multiple C3 should end this. Sasori can use a clay clone to take the hits from the Hikuro needles in time for Dediara to fly away. Posion smog is uselss. just hold your breath or use a bomb. Sasori dodged Garra's sand and multiple cordinated sand defenses so Impure World method is dodgeable.

I dislike Dediara

Can't Deidara just fly up really high and throw bombs at him until he dies. Sasori has not been shown to be able to make his puppets go that far into the air. Plus Deidara 2nd Best bomb C4 has like an enormous blast radius that he could not dodge.

I would say that Sasori would most definitely win because all he has to do is have Deidara use up all of his clay, in a sense that Sasori has far more defense measures than Deidara that could trap Deidara in a bind for an opening
